Sorry everyone, not really aibu but I need some advice quickly so I can go to bed Grin.
Just made a leg of lamb in the slow cooker (had to be cooked tonight). What will I do with it now? Should I turn off the slow cooker and leave it there to cool until the morning, should I take it out to cool or should I put it I the fridge?

don’t put it in the fridge when it’s still hot. as it’s lamb i would leave it in the slow cooker to cool down overnight.

Timeisslippingaway · 27/07/2018 23:07

Oh no I wouldn't put it in he fridge hot. Great thanks I'll do that just wasn't sure if it would still be ok to eat if I left it in there.

Id put that in the fridge, take it out the juice and pop it in either a bowl or plate and cover it an stick in the fridge.
The juice Id put in a Tupperware in the fridge.
Dont put the slow cooker in the fridge, it takes too long for the earthenware crock to cool down.
Theres no way Id leave that ovenight in the heat.
Dont sit the lamb and juice too close together in fridge if you can avoid it, if no its no big deal

Eat it? I'll get my jacket...

GreenTulips · 27/07/2018 23:11

Leave it in the slow cooker over night
You have reheat it in low in the morning

Make lots of mash and thick gravy ...... where are you again? I'll bring a bottle

Timeisslippingaway · 27/07/2018 23:18

Haha I wpuld eat it if it hadn't been my son's birthday party tonight and I have went a bit over bored with the junk food and now feel sick. Really looking forward to a proper dinner tomorrow now, don't want this lamb wasted 😉

I'd put it in a Tupperware container in a washing up bowl of cold water to cool it quickly, then refrigerate.

It goes in the fridge straight away do not leave over night, a quick Google of food safety will confirm

The weather has been hot. You need to cool the lamb as quickly s possible.

Anyway, I have leftover lamb today, too. I served it with potatoes braised with leek and garlic in chicken juices from last weeks roast, brussells sprouts and beans. Today, I will be chopping it all finely and making pies out of it. I have some thyme so that will go in. DH is looking forward to it. Plenty of red wine, roaring fire and some election results to watch on the tv. Happy me.

Horsemad · 28/07/2018 07:17

A roaring fire?! Where are you @TheSandgroper?

Metoodear · 28/07/2018 07:18

Shred the lamb and make wraps!

Tortilla wrap, some salad and hummus, red onions, bit of shredded lamb - delish!

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/07/2018 11:58

This may be rubbish and it may be pure luck that I haven't poisoned my family in 40-odd years ....

If the lamb has been cooked thoroughly, the temperature should have killed everything in it and inside its container. So providing the lid is putback on while it's still piping hot, and then not opened again, I don't see that there are going to be hordes of bacteria arriving on it. It's not as good a seal as a tin, so I would get it refrigerated/frozen as soon as possible ... but overnight wouldn't worry me.

Still cool it as soon as possible - you could stand the container in iced water and drape a teatowel over it because evaporation from the damp tea towel requires energy and thus will cool it further (the principle of old fashioned milk and butter coolers). And keep it in the coolest bit of your house overnight.
