To not stamp on this spider?!

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:18

A very nasty, scary looking spider outside my back door when I went outside.

I was petrified. I hate spiders.

Told DH who said I should stamp on it.

Couldn't bring myself too as scared as I was.

Not sure why. I guess partly because I fear repercussions. Karma. God. (Not religious btw).

Will I be punished if I harm an innocent creature however much it scares me? That was my thought when deciding not to stamp.

Spider has done nothing wrong. He's minding his own business outside where he belongs although perhaps a little too close to my back door. Grin

Maybe I'll regret not stamping on it. Maybe not.

On the flip side my DM is at home 20 miles away in agony, on antibiotics with a leg the size of an elephant due to reaction from a nasty spider bite.

Would you have stamped on it?

To not stamp on this spider?!

No I wouldn't have stood on it, no need to at all

maxthemartian · 27/07/2018 15:20

No. I love spiders. I never kill any creature that I'm not then going to eat.

kaytee87 · 27/07/2018 15:20

Ffs warning of the picture please! I know I shouldn't have opened a thread with the word spider in the title.

VeryHangryCaterpillar · 27/07/2018 15:20

No I wouldn’t. I don’t like spiders either but I wouldn’t let me irrational fear of them cause them harm needlessly. Especially in this weather we need all the spiders we can get to control all the flies etc. Leave the poor bugger alone!

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:20

@4cheekymonkeys Ah! Glad I'm not on my own then. Grin

Singlenotsingle · 27/07/2018 15:21

No. Leave spider alone. They eat flies. It's one of god's creatures.

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:21

@VeryHangryCaterpillar That was my thinking too. He's fine. Still outside my back door. Grin Not going to harm him for no reason!

Newuseronboard · 27/07/2018 15:21

I hate it as a teacher when kids stand on spiders.

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:22

@kaytee87 Sorry! My bad.

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:23

@Newuseronboard I just can't bring myself to cause unnecessary harm to a creature for no reason. However much said creature scares me.

Haberpop · 27/07/2018 15:24

No, why would you want to kill it? I am not the biggest fan of spiders but I don't understand why it is OK to kill something just because we are scared of it.

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:25

@Haberpop Totally agree. That's why I didn't kill it. I have no right to end a life.

OP posts:
ManorGreyhound · 27/07/2018 15:25

No! Its got as much right to be here as you have!

LoudestRoar · 27/07/2018 15:26

No, I hate them, but I won't kill them. I get DH to get rid of them. I had a thread on here Friday, as we had what turned out to be a False Widow in the house.

Hidingtonothing · 27/07/2018 15:26

I'm terrified of spiders but no, I wouldn't have stamped on it because it was outside, minding its own business. If they cross the line and enter my house it's a different story! Removal is my preference (if DH is around or it's not too big and I'm feeling brave) and stamping is a last resort but I'd be a liar if I said it never happened. Hope your DM is better soon OP and hope your eight legged visitor buggers off far away from your door Smile

jaynelovesagathachristie · 27/07/2018 15:28

No yanbu I always catch and release spiders leave him alone he'll snack on flies for you

3BriansWithNoShirt · 27/07/2018 15:28

I don’t like spiders understatement but leave them alone in the garden seeing as they’re being considerate enough to stay out of my homeGrin But bloody hell, that’s a mean looking one...

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:30

@Hidingtonothing I'm much the same! It outside and that's where they belong. So he can stay and hopefully he'll move away from the door soon. Grin

If I find them in the house I will do my upmost to get them back outside. Stamping is a last last resort and the guilt afterwards is bad!

Thanks!

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:31

@3BriansWithNoShirt that's what I thought too! He does look particularly scary and mean looking. I'm back inside and waiting for him to move along before I open the door again. Grin

Kaytee it's fairly obvious there was going to be a photo of the spider Confused why on earth did you look at the thread?

OP I wouldn't have stood on it.

expatmigrant · 27/07/2018 15:36

Really? Stamp on it? Why? What is it about to do to you?
But then again if you do decide to stamp on it, his friend might come and crawl into you mouth whilst your sleeping.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 27/07/2018 15:40

Spiders are the only reason I still have an Argos book.....

notstamping · 27/07/2018 15:41

@expatmigrant that's precisely the type of karma I was worried about. Grin

I haven't stamped on it. Wouldn't and won't.

It's unnecessary and it's done nothing to me.

expatmigrant · 27/07/2018 15:44

I do feel you're pain. Have a strapping rugby playing DS at home who is petrified of spiders. I usually have to save him from them.
