FOOTBALL NUISANCE

AIBU My elderly parents are both 79 years old. They have lived in the same house for 55 years and are two of the few original residents in their street. They get along with other residents especially the young kids that live in the street. However, last year a young couple and their three kids moved in across the road. The two sons, one aged about 11 and the other 17 constantly play football in the street with total disregard for people's cars or gardens. They usually play for between half an hour and 2-3 hours every single day. They rarely come into my parent's garden, but the constant thudding is very annoying to my parents. Their playing football sometimes attracts other youngsters from further afield and it then becomes a free-for-all. I've spoken to the boy's dad and he arrogantly replied that they are allowed to play football in the street. There are 3 playing fields within 5 minutes walking distance so it's not as if there's nowhere for these kids to play football. My parents are by no means old fuddy duddies (quite the opposite) but this is ruining their quality of life. So AIBU in wanting these kids to play elsewhere and should I make a complaint to the local council / police?

It's annoying but they aren't doing anything wrong and there's nothing you can do about it.

Try a complaint to the local council.

It is an annoying noise but while they're doing it at a reasonable time there isn't a lot that you can do. We have the same on our street, luckily I know the kids well enough to be able to ask them to play outside their own house if they are stopping my baby from napping or if it gets a bit too irritating. They do usually move along with no issue

If the football is going in to people's gardens and hitting their cars they are doing something wrong. No excuse if there is a park so close by.
