Uh oh...am I in trouble?

Just went the wrong way down a one way road. In my defence, I came out of a small side road that didn’t have any signs telling me I couldn’t go that way. Pretty sure I was snapped by a camera as saw a flash.

How bad is it? A fine or worse? Is it worth calling police to ‘confess’?

I would just wait and see. If you have been caught then you could take a photograph of the road you came out of and claim it was not possible to see that it was one way? Are you sure there wasn't a sign or big arrows on the road and you just haven't noticed them?

Readyfortheschoolhols · 25/07/2018 16:59

Take some pics of the way you took to show no signage.
Just incase...
I have followed satnav in our town down one way and heard nothing.

TheShapeOfEwe · 25/07/2018 16:59

No need to call the police! But you may get a fine, sorry 😐 sometimes the cameras flash but you don't actually get a ticket, it's just for show!

araiwa · 25/07/2018 17:00

Why would you call the police to confess? Confused

3 points and £100 fine IF you got caught last time i heard

ApolloandDaphne · 25/07/2018 17:00

TBH on reflection i am not sure the flash would have been from a camera. Surely they are only used for speeding? How would it be able to tell which direction you were going?

ohreallyohreallyoh · 25/07/2018 17:01

I don’t know! I feel so stupid. It felt wrong, you know? I will go and take a photo and yes, I suppose it’s possible there were arrows on the ground that I missed.

Bollox. So annoyed with myself.

Anyone know timescales? After how many days/weeks can I consider the matter closed if I haven’t heard.

ohreallyohreallyoh · 25/07/2018 17:04

Does CCTV take pictures? There was no speeding box (and I wasn’t speeding anyway).

ApolloandDaphne · 25/07/2018 17:06

CCTV doesn't take picture. I reckon you just felt guilty and as the sunshine glanced off a window or something you thought it was a camera flash.

52FestiveRoad · 25/07/2018 17:06

I have never heard of cameras on one way street. Was it a dual carriage way? Either way I would wait and see.

ohreallyohreallyoh · 25/07/2018 17:11

No, not dual, carriage way. Just a part of town I am not used to but which part of is clearly one way. There was a traffic light on my side of the road which is what really threw me cos it looked like I could stop there and wait to turn left.

Right. Will wait and see. Urgh! So stupid!

CCTV does "take pictures". Often used for box junctions. How do I know? I was caught by one.

Hassled · 25/07/2018 17:14

DH recently got done for using a bus lane (strange city, early hours of the morning, he didn't know spot it was a bus lane - although god knows how not as there absolutely would have been signs) and they had a photo of him in the bus lane, so that would imply they may pick you up on a one-way street. But I don't really know how it works, what the criteria are etc.

Amanduh · 25/07/2018 17:26

CCTV can pick you up on a one way street. If it did you may get a PCN, so no points but a fine. Controlled by the council, not the police.

SimonBridges · 25/07/2018 17:47

Can you look at it on google street view and see what the road markings or signs are like?

disappearingninepatch · 25/07/2018 17:50

This happened to me once. I was dropping DD at an event and saw someone walking down towards the entrance. Oh, I'll drop her there, I thought but didn't see the 'no entry' signs. I only realised what I'd done after dropping her off when I found myself going the wrong way down a slip road to the ring road. No repercussions for me, OP. Hopefully, you'll be fine.

Hippee · 25/07/2018 17:53

I did the same once - about 2 years ago, didn't hear anything.

@ohreallyohreallyoh Hi OP sorry this isn't relevant to the thread, but I've only just found your PM so I wanted to let you know I've replied! Thanks
