Help me write dog poo letter to neighbours

Flatearthersphere · 25/07/2018 11:49

There are 10 flats at the end of my road, 5 of them have dogs. Down our road 4 houses have gardens which they all (yes all) are walking their dogs on, our lawns are patchy yellow with urine and I am frequently having to rinse the lawn in patches where their dogs have had the squits and they've not removed it properly and I am often picking up actual turds. I have also witnessed 2 of them putting poo in bags in my neighbours recycling bins.

I'm fed up, I put a small 20cm fence up and they just let their dogs step over it, I can't afford another fence. We aren't actually allowed fences but I did it out of desperation and it's easily removed.

Our other neighbours darent say anything as there are a few trouble makers who do it which has put me Is it an idea to write an anonymous letter and send it to all 10 flats and let them know we have photographic evidence (which we do) of them all doing it? If this is a stupid idea, I'm open to anything. A couple do seem a bit intimidating so I don't want to approach really as have 3 children but the smell of wee is horrendous in this heat. The council said its up to us to sort as it's private property.
Heeelp. If I do write a letter, what do I put? Can I threaten them with sending it to the council for a fine or something?

“If you continue to allow your dogs to mess in my garden I will start shitting on your doormat.”

Go and stick that on the communal front door.

Nakedavenger74 · 25/07/2018 11:59

I'd write them a letter written in dog poo.

That'll learn em

Flatearthersphere · 25/07/2018 12:28

Ha! Also should have mentioned, I was going to send the letter the whole bunch do flats as we don't actually know which ones they live in!

I know you said the council won’t help but what about Environmental Health? I wonder if they consider dog poo a health hazard and could speak to the dog owners.

PragmaticWench · 25/07/2018 12:54

Who is it that won't allow you to have fences, is it the council, a housing company or a restrictive covenant? Could you look into having that changed?

agedknees · 25/07/2018 13:02

Ok, I’m a dog owner. What they ar doing is disgusting.

Dear disgusting dog owners,

Why any of you think it is your right to allow your dogs to poo in our private gardens, I do not know.

Please desist this practice now.

Yours
Flat

Get CCTV and post notices that they are being watch d. Unfortunately it looks like you’ve got a bunch of entitled dickheads living in the flats.

ShotsFired · 25/07/2018 13:12

Shovel up the dogshit into weekly/daily piles (as necessary) and dump it on the communal front door with a note explaining why. No bags or anything, just the shit.

Let them clear it up.

ShotsFired · 25/07/2018 13:14

(When I lived in a flat, I used to do this with a woman who would bring her bin bags down and leave them resting against the door of the bin store. She was literally cm away from the bin so it made no sense. I would take them back up and leave on her doormat, even after a night of the bag being attacked by cats and rats and rotting food spilling everywhere.)

ConciseandNice · 25/07/2018 13:19

The awful thing is the sort of person to do this is not the sort of person you want to ‘get on the wrong side of.’ Our local council actually told us not to approach people who do this as they’ll likely be aggressive. They are as stupid as they are ignorant. I’d definitely right a general letter to everyone, including photos if you can. I’d also be tempted to save one of your own shits especially and place it at the main door.

Is it legal to put a camera up in the UK to film people leaving dog dirt around?

Disgusting people.

Flatearthersphere · 25/07/2018 14:02

Yes it is legal, but I honestly don't think they would care! Plus I am so skint at the moment. The main thing is the wee smell! It stinks and if I could collect that up and pour it over their garden I'd love that. I will write a letter tonight and pretend it's from several of us. Thanks all! We spoke to one man before and he told us it's none of our business as long as he picks it up...

I empathise OP.
I used to live in a flatted estate with communal grounds - mainly car park but some grass areas, the largest of which was directly outside our flat as we were on the ground floor.
The rest of the bloody Street would bring their dogs to shit there, despite a public park being about 50 metres away.
Responses when politely told it was private land ranges from "fuck off" to "it doesn't look like a garden" (it had a low fence and no fouling signs up, though some thought they were doing no thing wrong as long as they picked up).
Pisses me off as I have three dogs and there's no way I would knowingly let them shit in someone else's garden.

MatildaTheCat · 25/07/2018 18:30

If the people allowing this are wrong’uns who wouldn’t be deterred by a camera I can’t see that a letter would make any difference unfortunately.

Can you contact your council or management company on the grounds of environmental health?

MorningCuppa · 25/07/2018 18:34

Write in your letter that there is cctv in place and all evidence will be sent to the appropriate authority.

abbsisspartacus · 25/07/2018 18:36

Pepper is your friend here no damage just a load of sneezing and cheap as anything

It's cruel to punish the dogs for the stupidity of the owners

DarkLikeVader · 25/07/2018 19:19

If you have photographic evidence contact your local dog warden. We’ve managed to get some filthy owners fined round here with proof. Disgusting 💩

beeefcake · 25/07/2018 19:43

Fuck sake, dog owners like this give all dog owners a bad name.

Take photographic evidence and post it to the lot of them with a note explaining the police have been informed to "shit" them up. I would also add some basic information on the risks associated with dog faeces- soil contaminated with roundworm can remain contaminated for years.

abbsisspartacus · 26/07/2018 05:49

It might seem cruel to "punish" the dog but the dog needs educating in one sense they only go there because they think they can if they are deterred they won't go

bellabasset · 26/07/2018 12:33

I second the dog warden. We have a special report system on the council website.

In order to get rid of the smell pour diluted Jeyes fluid on the grass which will disinfect the earth or grass.

UpstartCrow · 26/07/2018 12:35

Contact your local council and Environmental Health. Let them deal with it.
