I'll try to keep this short. My son started Reception in September and they do an online journal. I think after the first term they gave us log in details for it. I don't have a laptop, the kids had a kindle but it was literally on its way out, so no real use. Anyways, I thought I have the log in details I'll download it before summer, as I did with the staff at his previous nursery. They put it all on a memory stick for me. So I at least didn't lose it.

Anyways end of June I dropped my phone in the toilet and I was so gutted. My mum as a surprise bought me a mac and an iPhone. Excited was not the word. So first week in July I retrieve the letter to access his profile, they have a time out period, I needed a new letter. So last week Monday I stated I'd need a new letter, assured I'd get it by Tuesday morning. Asked said I'd get it that afternoon. Said she was too busy. Didn't ask on Wednesday as I didn't want to become annoying. Thursday morning she saw me and said she'd give me the form that afternoon, ex collected and when I enquiried about a form he stated there wasn't one. I asked Friday morning, she said I'd get it in the afternoon. No form. So Monday comes around again and she states she was so busy last week, she didn't get her ppa etc. Again no form in the afternoon. She sees the disappointment on my face and says she'll stay behind to do it. This morning I get the form, yay I think. I go home, sign up, it goes through, it then sends me an email to confirm my address and says they've sent the school a message and once they confirm I can access his profile. After a couple hours go past I call the school and ask the receptionist to confirm my application and she seems confused and says she'll ask his teacher and will call me back, she calls me in about an hour and says the teacher says she'll do it. I thank her. I get to school, I thank her, I say my goodbyes and she promises she'll confirm my application, she says it'll only take a few seconds. I'm happy. It's now 6pm no confirmation email so I can't access his profile and it will be deleted over the summer. I just feel disappointed. Everyone just assumes everyone has a tablet or labtop and that isn't the case. So aibu to be disappointed or is it my fault it's gone?

End of term is just a crazy time. Yanbu to be disappointed not to see the journal, but teacher inbu to think it's not that important to you if you've left it till the last week of term to ask about accessing it.

SimonBridges · 24/07/2018 18:14

Ask them to print it out. There should be an option to do that.
Could you not have accessed it on your phone? You only dropped that down the loo in June.

Allthewaves · 24/07/2018 18:16

It's just one of those things. Last wk term is manic. Slipped her mind everyone is human.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 24/07/2018 18:17

You chose to wait to ask on The last week of the school year.
Your mum could of lent you her phone or library has computers ect

Snowysky20009 · 24/07/2018 18:19

It will be so busy it has probably slipped her mind. In the grand scheme of getting things ready for next year this is probably down the bottom of the list. Sorry. As pp said why didn't you access it on your phone?

HushabyeMountainGoat · 24/07/2018 18:19

This is the sort of thing that admin staff should be doing, not teachers to be fair. Lots of things that only take a minute really do mount up and some will inevitably be forgotten. Youre not U to be disappointed though

alexpartie · 24/07/2018 18:24

Blimey, nice surprise present.

Racecardriver · 24/07/2018 18:32

You can't download from tapestry etc anyway can you?

Wolfiefan · 24/07/2018 18:35

You've been aware of this since September and you suddenly decide you must look at in in July? YABU.
The teacher has better things to do at the end of term.

Foodarella · 24/07/2018 18:35

I did leave it late, so that's my fault, but I needed a tablet or laptop to download it to or save it. I didnt realise that there was so much hoops to jump throug to access it. I just thought I needed the activation code. I doubt she'll be logging into her email over the holidays now.

OP posts:
Foodarella · 24/07/2018 18:37

Yes I was aware of it since September but we didn't get codes then.

Sirzy · 24/07/2018 18:37

It’s hardly the schools fault you haven’t logged in for the whole year!

Foodarella · 24/07/2018 18:38

Actually, yes you can download from tapestry, the nursery did it for me. I have like 300 pages of his nursery journal.

SimonBridges · 24/07/2018 18:38

She will be logging on to her emails. Teacher work over the holidays.
What do you need to download? Most online learning journeys are kind of like Facebook. It’s a stream of events.

Foodarella · 24/07/2018 18:39

I didn't say it was anyone's fault just said I was disappointed

OP posts:
SimonBridges · 24/07/2018 18:40

Ok, so it’s tapestry.
You could have accessed that from your phone.
You did not need a tablet or laptop.

pieceofpurplesky · 24/07/2018 18:42

OP you had a whole year to sort this and asked the teacher at one of the busiest times ... rather than be disappointed with the teacher be disappointed with yourself for not getting your arse in gear all year.

Wolfiefan · 24/07/2018 18:43

But you've had since September to ask and haven't bothered. Confused

SimonBridges · 24/07/2018 18:44

Faliure to get your shit together on your part did not constitute an emergency on her part.

You could have accessed it from any computer, phone or tablet. There is no excuse.

SmileSweetly · 24/07/2018 18:50

You could have accessed it any time during the year.

It is free to use computers and internet at your local library. Or asked a family member if you could access it (or have them access it for you).

It is not the teachers fault you couldn't get your shit together, you had a whole year to sort it out.

Dolphinswimmingupsidedown · 24/07/2018 18:57

Last week of term might be manic, but there are manic times in other people’s jobs too. You can’t trot that out as an excuse!

soapboxqueen · 24/07/2018 18:59

The teacher has a mountain of things to do and you wanting to see a learning journal you could have accessed for the majority of the year will be nowhere near the top.

The office staff probably aren't admin for the program, it's usually lCT coordinator or early years lead so they wouldn't know how to access it.

You are being v unreasonable to think they should have authorised your account straight away. It'll be an email sent to one member of staff (amongst 100s of others) that they probably won't get to straight away. Do you not think in the few hours you were waiting before calling the office that the teacher might have been... Teaching?

FatCow2018 · 24/07/2018 19:00

I was literally just in tapestry on my phone, so sorry YABU.

NorthernKnickers · 24/07/2018 19:02

You can definitely access Tapestry from a phone. I'm an Early Years teacher and use it daily. I'm very surprised you have waited a whole school year to try...and YABU to expect the teacher to have time in the last week, it's completely crazy at this time of year for school/nursery staff.

However, they will have saved it somewhere or downloaded it as evidence for their profiling, so I'm sure if you email and ask for a copy to be sent they will oblige. I'd be a bit miffed though to realise that a parent hadn't engaged in their child's learning journal at all for the entire year. It's supposed to be a partnership, that's why the online journals are so good...you can add to it as well as the teachers.

soapboxqueen · 24/07/2018 19:02

Dolphin yes other people are busy. However, busy people prioritise. A password for an account that could have been accessed months ago against all of the other things going on, is not in any way shape or form, a priority.
