UTI, cystitis or kidney infection? Or nothing?

Sorry for TMI. Will try to keep short.

Woke up Sunday at 0545 with urgency to pee. Not a shock, drank lots of home made fruit juice cocktails on Sat night.

Proceeded to be up peeing every 7-10mins for the next 4 hours. No sleep. Drank plenty of water. Self diagnosed cystitis. No pain, lots of urgency to pee in minute quantities.

Day went on, gaps between pees went up to an hour or so. Still drinking sensibly, don't want to end up overdoing it. Small amount of ibuprofen for hangover and pain in lower belly.

Monday, felt like shit this morning, groggy as hell. Pee painful but less urgent and more normal in quantity. Lower back pain. Drunk about 8 pints of water slowly through the last 15 hours plus a rehydration sachet and a couple of ibuprofen. In the last 2 hours, back ache is increasing and am back to peeing every 15 mins with pain and urgency in tiny quantities. 😭

I usually have blood in my pee when I have an infection, but none at all this time.

AIBU to be concerned this is a kidney issue, not a standard bout of cystitis or a UTI?

Thoughts?

Sounds a lot like a kidney infection but I am not medical. How are you now OP?

I have had three this last year and all three came on much quicker than you describe. The pain was unbearable (twice I had blood in my urine) but because of the pain and high temp/ sweats each time I finished up at emergency doctors. But I was told mine were quite severe infections and that I was quite poorly.

Rainhunter · 23/07/2018 21:40

You need to get your urine tested OP.

DidimusStench · 23/07/2018 21:43

Sounds like UTI. Off the to the GP with you tomorrow. Keep up the fluids, stay off the booze Wink

Walk in centre asap? I tried to be stoic until I could get a Dr's appointment and ended up with a kidney infection

sproutsandparsnips · 23/07/2018 21:44

Do you have a temperature or vomiting?

kitkatsky · 23/07/2018 21:46

Sounds more UTI than kidney infection as someone who has had both lots! Kidney infection makes me feel like death- usually need an injection to keep down water them need to sleep for 3 days before I can manage food. I'd still see a GP/ walk in for a urinalysis and at least a 3 day course of trimethoprim, stronger antibiotics if they think mild kidney infection. Feel better soon x

HoleyCoMoley · 23/07/2018 21:47

You don't want to spend the night piddling in pain every 15 mins, I would go to walk in centre, at least contact 111 who I think will say the same, you don't want to get a kidney infection.

SilverHairedCat · 23/07/2018 21:47

No temperature, feel like I've been beaten up and am knackered. Felt nauseated this morning, but no vomiting.

I think I'll have to ring the docs in the morning unless something changes.

Walk in / minor injuries closes at 9pm.

Bugger.

Ooh, just found 3 days worth of nitro (antibiotics) from my last bout of a UTI - the nurse gave me a long course as we were about to go on honeymoon with instructions to take 4 days worth and only take all 7 days if it hadn't cleared up.

They're in date. Shall I just start them?

I would call 111 as sometimes they can make an appointment to see a GP at an a&e (i've done this when out of hours was closed)
Hope you feel better soon...UTI and kidney infections are horrendous Flowers

No. General rule: don’t take perscribed medication until you’ve seen a doctor first. You’ve not seen a doctor for this instance, don’t take them.

SilverHairedCat · 24/07/2018 09:22

Have spoken to the surgery, am popping down shortly to give a sample. The nurse will dip it and ring me this afternoon for a chat and go from there.
