Thin your carrots early so you've got 3 inches between individual carrots, leaving thinning too late stunts them and makes thinning without pulling the whole clump out difficult.

And don't over water them, slightly dry forces them to go deeper for water =longer carrots.

No advice for peas I'm afraid, I've tried twice and got empty pods

Both can handle neglect so they are good for beginners and will [usually] produce food.

I don't know if you want or need advice about preventing slugs but I'm helping my son grow his first veg plants this year and we've stopped slugs eating them so far by putting egg shell's around the bottom of each plant.
Thanks pp for the carrot advice. I didn't know any of that so we've only had tiny carrots. Will come in handy in the future
