Too much sleep? 😴

MoonsAndJunes · 21/07/2018 14:15

We finished school last Friday (teacher) & I have spend at least 3/4 hours of every day asleep so far. Sleeping a good 9 hrs at night too.
I get up at around 7am and by 10am I need to go back to bed...
AIBU to waste the day away like this or should I fight it?
Teenage DC so they're out and about.
AIBU to think this is not normal?
Or is it? Does anyone else sleep excessively at the start of their holiday?
I don't do this when I'm working obviously!

Sounds to me like your bored, find yourself a hobby. 🙂

kitkatsky · 21/07/2018 14:32

You're just crashing. Everyone does it when they have a holiday. See a doctor if it carries on for more then a fortnight but relax in meantime and see it as your body recovering

MoonsAndJunes · 21/07/2018 14:33

Bumble Thanks for the crap advice! I think you're trying to be snide so you'll be delighted to hear that next week and the week after, I'll be back in work shifting 4 classroom's contents around with colleagues.

Seriously though, not bored at all - away on holiday ATM so lots to do here, just zero energy to do it & its pissing me off.

kitkat Thanks, I think I will do that. I could cry because DC and DH are off out having fun & I just want to sleep.

Have you had your iron levels checked?

Had mine done after I’d had s blood clot in my leg and it turned up low ferritin so I’ve been on iron supplements for nearly a year. The difference is palpable.

MissionItsPossible · 21/07/2018 14:36

Crap advice from bumble but if you have been sleeping for 18 hours or near on a roll then no, that is not nowhere near normal.

Lifeisabeach09 · 21/07/2018 14:37

Agree with Kitkat.
Your body obviously needs the sleep so indulge it and, hopefully, this will pass in a few weeks. Try to incorporate light exercise if you can and eat healthily.

VeganCow · 21/07/2018 14:37

I would love it, you're probably not just sleeping all day, maybe couple of hours kip then make a brew, potter about, on phone, bit of tv. Sounds like a nice chill out time.

MissionItsPossible · 21/07/2018 14:38

Ignore my last post I thought you said you spend 3/4 of the day sleeping

Bumble1830 · 21/07/2018 14:38

I wasn't being snide at all. You've stopped doing what you normally do, so, IMO need something new to occupy your mind until you go back to doing what you do. Jeez

Whattheheq · 21/07/2018 14:40

Woah, i don’t think bumbles advice was crap or snide at all. Bit of a very nasty over reaction.

MoonsAndJunes · 21/07/2018 14:43

curly I thought that too. I'm going to go with it this week and see doc. If no better next week.
vegan I'm lucky DC are at the age where they can occupy themselves. DH is leaving me to it. I think he's enjoying the peace & quiet reading!

So Bumble wasn't telling me that I had far too much time on my hands (and didn't know what to do with it ) now that the long holiday had begun? That's good to hear.

Could be as simple as having low vitamin D levels, I slept so much when mine were lower!

Andthatswhatitsallabout · 21/07/2018 14:49

How do you feel when awake op? Do you have much energy? How about after you wake up do you feel refreshed or lethargic? Maybe it's just your body's way of recuperating but I would say if this is out of the ordinary to get a check-up and some bloods done.
Could be iron levels or thyroid issues. Any chance of pregnancy?
Enjoy your break, you teachers need it! Smile

Bumble1830 · 21/07/2018 14:53

@MoonsandJunes yeah, thats pretty much what I was saying, there's nothing wrong with that. When I have time off I get bored, I'm used to going work and being busy, when not at work I do everything I need to do, go where I need to go, then there's nothing to do. What's wrong with that?

MoonsAndJunes · 21/07/2018 15:00

Feel really good when I wake up - then I get up & feel really sluggish very quickly.
My diet has been rubbish lately. I'm going to take MN advice & try to increase iron/vitamins. It's like my brain has stopped too! Fuzzy head.

I'm not a teacher, though I do work more than full time. I pretty much sleep through the first few days of any holiday. It's called relaxing.

MoonsAndJunes · 21/07/2018 15:36

...and has said the same! This doesn't usually happen for so long so glad it's not just me!
I think the mixture of hot weather & busy time with her work (not teaching) has wiped her out.
