SC Clearance - first rejected, applying again

I have just applied for a job which needs SC clearance. My first one was rejected on credit issues. Would you know if I can reapply? I really want this job.

How long ago were you rejected?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 19/07/2018 17:02

If you've literally just applied and been rejected, I don't believe that you can reapply. Nothing would have changed.

You usually get an option to appeal; but if the information that they hold is correct, that may be difficult depending on the job that you're going for.

OlennasWimple · 19/07/2018 17:03

It's unusual for "credit issues" to affect SC clearance unless they were significant concerns. Maybe more likely that there were discrepancies between the information you gave on the form and the records that they have checked, such as dates and addresses where you have lived

ChelleDawg2020 · 19/07/2018 17:06

If the information is correct they only thing you can do is try to explain to your potential employer why you failed and why it wouldn't affect your performance in the role.

If you've failed a credit check because you're 18 and have never had credit, they might be sympathetic. If you've defaulted on loan after loan, probably not. Something that suggests poor financial management or dishonesty will mark you out as unsuitable in many employers' eyes, regardless of whether you are actually going to be handling money as part of the role.

It will also depend on who the employer is as to whether there's discretion. Where I work (government) there isn't any

Is it done by a private company or in house? I guess it depends on what the job is for and why you failed. I thought you would only fail on something financial if you had been declared bankrupt, had IVAs or CCJs etc. Surely all of this would still stand.

What was the specific reason? Bribability or Dishonesty risk over finances?

I know a vetting officer, they usually give out SC like sweets! Did you have an interview?
