QUICK - white washing turned pink!!

I've just washed my bedding (mixture of white sheets with beige/navy duvet cover and pillow cases) and there was a red fancy dress item in there which has turned the whole lot pink. I noticed straight away and have put it back on with another washing tab, a bit of bleach and a bit of white vinegar.

It's spinning round now and looks marginally better but still fairly pink. 50 minutes left on the cycle, so only been on 20 minutes or so.

Is there anything else I can do when the cycle is finished? I haven't got any of that colour stuff and DS is napping but if it will still work a bit later on I could get some. I do have vanish and all the usual stuff.

My AIBU is to ask whether I can throttle the member of my family that hid a red cowboy neckerchief in my laundry basket Wink

I would soak the white stuff in Napisan. I use it in my wash (all my bedding is white) as well as use it for soaking holiday stuff that has sun cream stains. Works a treat.

Buy the dylon colour run sachets from the supermarket and wash the white things again with it, will sort it out.

If they are pure white and still a bit pink after that, you could wash them again with a bit of bleach in the wash drawer (might need to then rewash with detergent and conditoner to get rid of smell)

househunthappening · 18/07/2018 16:00

Thanks both, will those things work if I'm not able to do them immediately? It will probably be this evening before I'll be able to get to the shop.

I'd not let them dry until you can get some dye-be gone type product

Can your washing machine do a rinse and hold? Or at least not spin so they stay really wet??

falaffels · 18/07/2018 16:14

I'd go with having pink sheets. I have lots of pink pants from a similar mishap, and I rather like them.

Busybusybust · 18/07/2018 16:16

That colour run stuff, it works!

bellabasset · 18/07/2018 16:16

Could someone pick up the dylon colour run remover for you on their way home, perhaps the person who left the red item in your laundry basket. Leave it on rinse and hold as MsHomeSlice suggested.

househunthappening · 18/07/2018 16:26

No panic, DS awake so off to the shop now. Wash about to finish so already spun, will do a rinse hold before we go so they stay wet.

Right, all back in with the colour run stuff. Got the napisan too in case that doesn't work!

It's not my week, yesterday I upset a whole tub of Cuprinol fence paint over myself!

Bedding?
I wouldn't waste time money or effort to be honest.
It's bedding, just hang it out to dry!

Twinkie1 · 18/07/2018 17:03

Milton liquid or tablets are great for this problem.

DesignStatement · 18/07/2018 17:15

Let us know how it goes OP. My bedding is all white too and keeping the hints given here for future reference.

InsomniacAnonymous · 18/07/2018 17:18

As others have said Dylon colour run remover works perfectly.

reeldoop · 18/07/2018 23:13

Hope it worked,.may take.a couple of goes if lots of fabric but it will work. My ds has a white hoodie which repeatedly goes pink when some idiot doesnt empty the machine properly or leaves a red sock in. I've bought it (and many other things) back from the pink many times. I put the Dylon colour run in my basket now when its on offer to always have some in now.

As others have said, I think it workes best/quickest from wet but ive also had to let things dry for days before getting hold.of it and it has also worked from dry, maybe taking 2 goes.

I dont work for Dylon but I do love that stuff! Also the Dylon colour run sheets that allow you to chuck all the last few dregs in together whatever the colour when i just cant face doing anynore bloody washes at the weekend!

househunthappening · 19/07/2018 19:07

Was just coming back on to update on this gripping drama Smile

It did work, I put it back on with the colour run stuff in it and most of the pink cane out. It was just the white sheet and 2 white pillowcases that were still slightly pink so I soaked them in the bath with the napisan overnight, washed them this morning and hung them out in the sun.

Thanks mumsnetters!

I had a colour run accident with a pink mark sweatshirt. It got a bluish tinge after being washed with jeans. I rather liked the effect and kept on wearing it and washing it. After a couple of washes it had reverted back to its original colour.

DesignStatement · 19/07/2018 20:18

Off to buy Napisan and colour run 'stuff'.
Thanks OP.
