To change driving instructors?

Hi,

I have block paid for 20 hours lessons with my driving instructor. I'm on lesson 13. My test was booked very early, after a series of cancellations by him (I think he maybe felt bad and wanted to spur me on).

In total I think he has cancelled 5 lessons so far (last minute and with huge gaps in between, he has also cancelled very last minute) I had another lesson this morning and he said he would have to cut it by 30 mins with another excuse. I have my test in 1 weeks time.

What's anyone's experience with driving instructors? His lesson planning seems to be very spontaneous, and not thought through at all.

We have attempted parallel parking twice. The first time was perfect so I asked him to email me the instructions so I could practice. It took a couple of weeks for him to email me this and it was incoherent. The second attempt was a complete failure, I did exactly as he said but it didn't work. We then attempted it again and I failed, to which he got a bit defensive and crabby stating how many pupils he had and everyone was different...( I didn't say a word throughout this time) I feel as though my progress has been hindered due to his disorganisation and lack of planning.

I have 7 hours remaining and my test booked for next week. Am I being overly difficult or is this the norm? Any advice on what you would do in this situation?

To recap I started driving in April, he has cancelled 5 times and has had 3x holidays so it's not been very consistent at all...
TIA X
