Washing machines

Two neighbours live in adjoining houses. Neighbour 1 has asked neighbour 2 not to run the washing machine when she's out in case it goes on fire. Neighbour 2 has continued to do so. Who is being unreasonable?

(Name changed for this thread in case other neighbour recognises herself!)

Neighbour 1. You can not dictate when someone does their Washing.
To be fair I don’t run the tumble dryer when out but our washing machine can take 4 hours so that goes on almost permanently including when out.
Whilst it can happen, a fire statistically very rare with a well maintained Washing machine, it is tumble dryers that are far riskier.

I wouldn’t let my neighbour dictate when I did my washing

redcaryellowcar · 16/07/2018 06:54

Whilst there is a small risk, I don't think you can dictate when someone does their washing.

Canwejustrelaxnow · 16/07/2018 06:57

Neighbour 1 ibu. Ridiculous!

MountainPeakGeek · 16/07/2018 06:59

Neighbour 1 is being unreasonable and odd.

TheWineDarkSea · 16/07/2018 07:07

Of course the neighbour can run his/her washing machine whenever we s/he wants! They don't have to pander to someone else's anxieties.

Spam88 · 16/07/2018 07:15

Neighbour 1 IBU, obviously.

9amTrain · 16/07/2018 07:15

They can ask, but they can't expect them to do it!

Which one are you in the situation?

washingmachinewoop · 16/07/2018 07:30

I'm Neighbour 2. I like what Mountain said - unreasonable and odd. Neighbour 1 has form for that and generally wanting to control everything that happens around her. As a PP mentioned, my washing machine can take 4 hours to run so I'd never get through our family's laundry if I only ran it when there's someone home!

Ah in that case tell her sorry but you have a life and you suggest she gets one too.

ToadOfSadness · 16/07/2018 07:40

Ask her to unplug her fridge and freezer at night in case they catch fire.

Skiiltan · 16/07/2018 07:41

Does neighbour 1 tell you to turn your fridge off when you go out, too?

washingmachinewoop · 16/07/2018 08:03

When she made the request I told her I wasn't interested in doing what she told me. Bit rude I know but this isn't the first time she's made a ridiculous request. She also recently told my partner not to cut the hedge when she has washing out in case it gets leaves on (he didn't stop and just told her it wasn't windy). Seems she has a bit of a laundry obsession...

And good point about fridges etc..
