To want to know why you hate the beach??

I've just spent a week in Dorset and visited some popular beaches.

Why when you walk off the beach do you take your own rubbish but not pick up anything washed up by the sea or left by other people? If you've had a lovely day out, why is it you don't show the beach any love or appreciation?

?

gamerwidow · 15/07/2018 20:17

I'm a bit of a germophobe so while I will always always take my own rubbish home I'm squeamish about picking up other people's rubbish.

PuppyMonkey · 15/07/2018 20:17

Oh I thought this was going to be about why people hate beaches. I can’t stand sand and find beaches very boring.Grin

gamerwidow · 15/07/2018 20:17

I do get what you mean though if we all took 3 bits of rubbish home that didn't belong to us we'd have our beaches spotless in no time.

BareBelliedSneetch · 15/07/2018 20:19

I hate beaches. I hate sand, I hate salt water, I neeeeeed shade, and the cool of grass and trees.

But if I do have to visit a beach I don’t leave my litter there. No mater how grumpy I am.

BareBelliedSneetch · 15/07/2018 20:19

Matter.

Sittingonaspindryer · 15/07/2018 20:19

Sorry, what?
How about you criticise the people who leave their rubbish behind rather than berating people for not clearing up after the skanks who can't be bothered?

Maidsrus · 15/07/2018 20:20

It’s the same everywhere! Some people are just inconsiderate knobs

Wherever I go, camping, shopping, picnicking, walking - I am very careful not to drop rubbish. There’s lots of people that don’t give a shit

Worlds0kayestmum · 15/07/2018 20:20

I live in Dorset and happily pick up our own rubbish when we have finished on the beach. When I'm trying to pack up three fractious and tired children, I don't really have the time or the inclination to pick up other people's. We will do a five minute pick up if we are going on a walk along the beach.

Apileofballyhoo · 15/07/2018 20:20

I also thought that, Puppy. Also, nowhere decent to go to the toilet and wash hands. I prefer stony beaches and being by the sea in winter.

FrogFairy · 15/07/2018 20:21

I hate the smell of the sea and I burn like a rasher of streaky bacon.

flutteryleaves · 15/07/2018 20:22

i freak out at others germs and mess, so i deal with my own. sorry for being selfish and just cleaning my own mess away!

the question to ask is why you hate the beach so much that you leave rubbish behind in the first place, right?

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2018 20:23

I hate the beach. Sand everywhere and loads of other people bringing the entire contents of their house with them and invading your personal space.

So I tend to not go. Grin

GetToFuck · 15/07/2018 20:23

Because I'd get carried away and embark on a day-long beach cleanup mission.

taxicum · 15/07/2018 20:24

PuppyMonkey, you may hate beaches but I'd be surprised if you leave your crap all over them in spite. Though, I may be wrong about that...

We take our own rubbish and if there was anything nearby we’d pick that up too, I wouldn’t go litter picking the beach though

50shadesofgreyismylaundry · 15/07/2018 20:28

When I go to the beach I'm usually running on it so don't stop to litter pick.

What a goady thread title. Surely it could have been phrased better.

PuppyMonkey · 15/07/2018 20:28

Nah, I avoid them where possible OP.

I prefer a countryside walk or a shady spot by the river. Or the pub.

chickhonhoneybabe · 15/07/2018 20:31

There was a condom on the beach I went to on holiday a few weeks ago. I did think about picking it up for a nano second with a broken fishing rod we had, but hell no I’m not picking up anyone else crap up!

Glumglowworm · 15/07/2018 20:33

I think your anger would be better aimed at the idiots leaving the litter in the first place!

madeyemoodysmum · 15/07/2018 20:34

Last week I picked up 3 mac Donald's bits in a car park near a lake. Not the beach but I will pick up rubbish. Drives me mad tho. 😡

taxicum · 15/07/2018 20:34

Totally with you Worlds0k, I'm certain the beach is down with that.

Scenario: you leave the beach thats given you so much and asked for nothing from you. You pick up some crap on the walk to the car. Minimal effort. You're passed by a number of others leaving the beach. They comment "aren't people ignorant, isn't it a problem, I always take mine, oh aren't you good."

I like beaches - the only thing I don't like is the sandy feet problem.

I pick up litter in parks - bonus points if it can be recycled.

I'm in favour of £1000 fines for litter thrown out of vehicles (reduced to £800 if you do some unpaid litter picking), instead of the measly £80 fines. Turn it into a stupidity tax, then the rest of us could pay less.

SpongeAndBubbles · 15/07/2018 21:06

Me and DS usually get out in the evening when it's cooler with our grabby sticks(no touching! Especially as some things are melted mcflurrys and real sticky, ew)
And our large bin bags Grin

It's a nice walk from sweating all day plus it's dead so easier to go around picking stuff up :)

Echobelly · 15/07/2018 21:08

I personally hate beaches as I find them hot, boring and everything gets covered in sand!

But I still keep them tidy if forced to go.
