One of my top heroes. (Though she might hate being called that).

The documentary of her life and times is on BBC iPlayer and finishes this Monday. So last chance to see!

Its really amazing on so many levels.

AIBU to remind people?

Thanks, OP - will take a look!

YANBU I dont personally agree with everything she says but I think she is an absolute legend. People are so angry with her right now for a few random comments taken out of context for the purpose of creating headlines... theres no regard for the context at all... or that any argument may not be black and white... or any interest in her career as a whole... just outrage... I think its a sad sign of our times that people seem to have lost interest in any discussion and instead just seem to want soundbites and easy slogans they can mindlessly get behind

I'm going to try to have a watch this weekend. As an Aussie she pissed me off slagging off Australia but the older I get the more interesting she has become to me.

MimpiDreams · 13/07/2018 16:04

I watched it and was quite impressed. Mad as a box of frogs and genuinely doesn't give a hoot. I have a bit of a crush if I'm honest.

TerfsUp · 13/07/2018 16:08

GG is a legend.

ScoobyGangMember · 13/07/2018 16:09

Love the Greer.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/07/2018 16:11

Genuinely genius mind. And does not give one single fuck.

Love her.

user8807 · 13/07/2018 16:11

Fan here too. Very sad she couldn’t have children.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 13/07/2018 16:12

I agree there's a lot to admire about her. However, I could never get my head round her views about pre-pubescent boys, made public some years ago.

BertrandRussell · 13/07/2018 16:16

"I could never get my head round her views about pre-pubescent boys"
What do you consider her views on ore pubescent boys to be?

LonelyPlanetStreet · 13/07/2018 16:24

For me the issue was a bit of a red herring re. the boy thing. I read the book a long time ago - for me anyway, she was mostly simply pointing out their beauty, something one can perhaps only appreciate with age.

Anyway, I'm only half-way through the documentary. Saved it for my full attention on a Friday afternoon.

I'll have to leave it there for now or it will be a running commentary! What she says about her mother I found quite interesting and poignant. Documentary also shows her (slightly wry, sardonic) humour shining through. Really pleased I'm not the only one on the planet who admires her.

balljuggla · 13/07/2018 16:37

Ooh, thanks for the heads up as I want to watch it for the third time again. I love that she genuinely has not a single fuck to give.

Bluelady · 13/07/2018 16:51

I love her and loved the film. She's a huge part of the reason I'm a feminist.

lolaflores · 13/07/2018 17:08

There are some very brave photos in due course. Parts if her I never expected to see. Not sure if have done it or let the prints exist. We need more like her.

NewYearNewMe18 · 13/07/2018 17:22

God awful woman.

BertrandRussell · 13/07/2018 17:27

"God awful woman"

Do you want to say any more?

RustyParker · 13/07/2018 18:12

I loved the documentary!

Was seething at the young production assistant patronising her during the bit where she was getting ready to go on an ITV show. How dare she talk to St Germaine like that Angry

Reading Female Eunuch as a youngish teen articulated everything I had grown up seeing around me and couldn't make sense of.

I don't think we have anyone who could take over the baton from her. I mean, there are women who absolutely could, but they would never get the airtime from mainstream media.

Bluelady · 13/07/2018 18:15

She's a complete one off, which is part of her charm.

ChristmasFluff · 13/07/2018 18:30

Aye, I have my disagreements with her (haha, I said that like she knows!), but every woman who slags her also owes her a debt, whether they know it or not.

Noqont · 13/07/2018 18:33

Thank you op. Love Germaine Greer. ❤️

Mawalls · 13/07/2018 18:51

Seriously what would you all think of an old man talking about beautiful girls who made a bok

'full of pictures of "ravishing" pre-adult -boys- with hairless chests, wide-apart legs and slim waists''

Cannot even think of a corollary to her comment about spunk running like tap water

Anyone who enjoys looking at pictures of 12 year olds is a pedophile, no ifs no buts

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 13/07/2018 18:56

I respect her complete lack of concern about what people think, and her brain is first class. Shame she seems to like shocking people with controversial soundbites nowadays. I mean i know some of that is media driven but still. She's smart, she knows what will make the headlines.

SeaWitchly · 13/07/2018 19:12

Oh no, I am in Aus and BBC iplayer won't work here Sad

Does anyone know if there is another way to view this?

Bloody love bloody Germaine Greer!

SunnyTikka · 13/07/2018 20:04

SeaWitchy when I am abroad I use TunnelBear to watch all my UK stuff. It worked a treat when I was in Oz. It's a proxy server to make your computer (iPad in my case) think you are in the UK.
