Baby wearing experience

Every time I used a baby bjorn for carting my infants (under 6 months) they did vast, yellow breastmulk poos that squirted everywhere including in my clothing their clothing and the carrier. They were so snug and the nappies didn’t have any ‘catching room’.
Aibu in thinking they are a lovely idea but in practice, stupid as the poop has nowhere to go but out?

Never had a poo incident in a carrier with mine. I suppose the position might help things... get along... but my experience is that they do try not to wee/poo on you if in the sling.

I carry my youngest. Baby Bjorns aren’t great. They’re not good for your back and the positioning of the baby whilst in them isn’t good for their hips (which probably also explains the squirting poo!). There’s a lot of different ways you can carry your baby. I use a connecta which puts the baby in the frog/seated position which is better for their hips and spreads out the weight evenly across my back.

There’s lots of info online, if you want to continue carrying then it’s worth doing quite a bit of research.

They are old now, just reminiscing and wondering if anyone else had the same problem.

Ah right. Didn’t catch that they’re older now from your OP Smile

My DD did do a poo in the connecta once and it leaked a bit but she is an expert projectile shitter Grin

In a quality carrier (bjorn are horrible crotch danglers), the baby is supported by hips and thighs, not the crotch, so this shouldn’t happen. But I can see how it would as weight isn’t properly distributed in a bjorn. In 3 years of wearing mine though in a wrap, no, don’t actually think she ever pooed once though!

My nemesis is the car seat. So so many poo explosions!

Seasawride · 13/07/2018 12:03

I can’t get past the phrase ‘baby wearing’ to be honest Wink

As in the oscars ‘who are you wearing?’

Er my baby! It really is a daft expression

I have heard the baby bjorn isn't great I think it does put more pressure on the nappy area, as well as not supporting the hips. Both DH and I have carried (worn?) DS a lot in our sling and so far no poop leakage.

KitchenFloor · 13/07/2018 14:02

Must say our poo-inducer was always the bumbo with eldest.

DD was great at doing poosplosions in the jumperoo (we named it the jumper-poo). I can see why baby Bjorns with the same shaped 'seat' would have the same effect. But in a carrier with the legs spread wide, it wasn't so bad, I don't remember ever having to wash the carrier.

We did use mainly cloth nappies though, as disposables just couldn't contain her poos (our record was 5 clothes changes in one day with disposables!)

NotUmbongoUnchained · 13/07/2018 14:05

Baby Björns are awful that’s why.

Never had an incident and wore both of mine until they were 2.

mayandjuniper · 13/07/2018 14:17

Used all sorts of carriers and slings with my kids and I don't remember any incident of getting poo/wee on any of my clothes, although there were a couple of times when wee leaked on to the carrier, but that's just a case of too long in a cloth nappy, so my own fault.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 13/07/2018 14:20

DS2 had an Ergo sling he lived in til he got so enormous he could carry me about. He once did a shit so vile it made me gag and I've a strong stomach. Took him out of the sling and we were both coated from the neck-down with vibrant piccalilli-hued shart.

Ds had an explosion in the Bjorn a couple of times, I only used it a short time. I did better with a basic sling and second baby, no explosions with that. I had an old NoJo sling. Don't think they are around anymore.
