This is going to sound bad but bear with me. It will be intentionally vague so as not to out myself hopefully.

I worked for a company as an employee and loved it. The company was bought out last year and loads of us were made redundant.

The company took some of us back on but on a franchise type basis to do work for them still on a self employed basis.

This meant we did the same work but were paid per transaction rather than a salary.

Initially this was fine. We would get all the info needed for the transaction side of things and it would take literally two minutes to do. The transaction price is ridiculous but we were able to work fast. I was easily making similar to my salary.

Recently the information needed for the transaction side has been scarce. It has gone from a two minute job to having to search out all the info and details required and input into a system which doesn't work half the time before we can even complete (think company details, imaging etc)

Last month I made £127!!

Aibu to say no more even if it meant I had to go on job seekers or whatever it is called now or do I stick with it and starve?

Of course YANBU - they are taking the total piss.

Bluelady · 11/07/2018 15:01

How are you paid? If it's on a PAYE basis, you're not self employed. In which case record exactly how it's changed, can the job and take them to an employment tribunal for constructive dismissal.

ChandlersSmile · 11/07/2018 15:03

It seems more and more common for companies to decide everyone is 'self employed' and then royally take the piss. Companies want all the benefits of having employees ie dictating what they do and paying them a pittance, with none of the responsibility.

I'd leave, definitely!

blackbirdbluebottle · 11/07/2018 15:06

YANBU you should find a new job ASAP

ChelleDawg2020 · 11/07/2018 15:08

YANBU, get the hell out ASAP.

IsaidMrDarcynotArsey · 11/07/2018 15:10

Seriously, work that out as an hourly rate. There’s your answer.

Fatclub · 11/07/2018 16:04

I don't want to work it out. I might cry!
Bluelady I invoice them and pay my own tax and insurance.

You are not self employed - it’s a set of criteria not a decision
HMRC might not look too kindly on it, I would report them if I were you

museumum · 11/07/2018 16:08

It is on a dodgy footing but be careful. If you stop you may not get jobseekers for a while as you’re currently self employed. Do your research before anything rash.
But do apply for new jobs!

Fatclub · 11/07/2018 17:10

I can refuse work and accept other work so I think I would be classed as self employed still Hopping as I do take work from elsewhere now too.
