I really want to go away on holiday with my DD13. DH and I just don't get on anymore (v long story) but I don't want my DD to miss out when all her friends go away during the summer hols. I want to go abroad, any suggestions where to go? Can't afford much so need to keep it reasonable and prepared to go for 4 - 6 nights. I suffer with anxiety but I really think I need to do this for her..anyone been away just them and DC? where did you go? Thank you

Been away with both my dds without dh and the dds. We went to Cyprus, other friends have done Majorca with dds.

Go for it op

I've not been on my own with DC but we went to Port Aventura recently and the theme park and water park are really good, lots to keep a teenager amused for a few days. If the on site hotels are too expensive look for a deal in Salou/La Pineda, there's really good public transport to the parks and nice beaches nearby.

Cyprus is pretty expensive for the flights, but there’s cheaper areas of Greece. Or failing that Spain / northern Turkey etc there’s lots of cheap destinations especially if you can wait and grab a last minute deal (or book a year in advance!).

There are probably other websites (let me know anyone!) but Secret escapes do holidays which are geared up for two people lots of city breaks on there.
Barcelona?

Yep. Pretty much every year since she was 2. Originally because I was a single parent. Now married for 6 years but DD and I always go for a week together somewhere (she's 16).
We like the hot weather so I normally start by looking for cheap Ryanair flights as soon as they are released and then find a hotel. So I work backwards from the flights Smile

Portaventura is fab. Salou is fairly cheap (consider a serviced apartment - we stayed in one next to the theme park which was also a 15 min walk to the beach).

Travel republic also pretty good for booking hotels and flights at the same time if you are nervous about booking separately.

My DS (aged 2) and I have been on many holidays alone (I’m a single parent).
The best places have been The Algarves, Portugal and Lanzarote, Spain.
We also enjoy going to France!

Thank you all so much! I will have a look at some travel websites and go ahead and book something. x

Good for you Ruby. You'll have a great time.

I'm a single parent and my DS and I have had some fab adventures over the years travelling.
