Which way is colder for our fridge?

It's an AEG numbered 1 to 7 on the dial and we can't seem to get a straight answer from Google so I've turned to MN naturally.

TIA for answering a question I feel like we should know the answer to!

Judging by the way the dial has turned on every fridge I’ve ever used, 7 is colder.

Higher number is colder

Every fridge I’ve owned, the higher the number in the dial, the colder the fridge. You are basically turning up the ‘fridgeness’. Dh can’t get his head round turning the dial ‘up’ turns the temp down.

0 is off so 7 is the coolest. (I have to check every time!)

Turn the dial whichever way you choose.

If the motor kicks in and starts humming you’ve turned the temp down.

Do and I argue about this constantly!
Do is a chef though, apparently 5 is the coldest on ours. 1 is warmest...apparently

I'm so pleased you posted this! I've been struggling to work my fridge out but it keeps freezing the odd thing! Will reduce the number!

I've checked this on our fridge several times, I agree that it's confusing!

All my old second hand crappy fridges the higher the number the colder it is but my new fancy pants fridge is in degrees , i leave it to dh to sort and just moan if its too warm/cold

The dial essential cranks up the power.

So, if 7 is coldest, do you “turn it up to 7” or “turn it down to 7”

Up to 7, I’d say. Up to the top power = up to the coldest.

Fairly sure my Bosch one goes the other way! It goes 2 4 6 8 and mine is on 6, think it might be degree celsius perhaps?
