Hannabee123 · 09/07/2018 19:45

I dont know what to do 😦

I've suffered bad burns to my right stomach and leg. I am 45% dressings. I have to go back to get my burns re dressed tomorrow and then every few days... It's warm how the hell do I shower without getting my dressings wet??

No bath - contemplating avoiding the shower and sticking a flannel around It??

baby wipes?

agedknees · 09/07/2018 19:47

Just give yourself a good strip wash using soap and flannel. Hope your burns heal quickly.

BillywigSting · 09/07/2018 19:47

Just get a sink wash. You can't get your dressings wet, that way lies infection.

You don't need to shower to keep clean.

GobblersKnob · 09/07/2018 19:48

Just a flannel or baby wipes. Hope you heal soon.

Hannabee123 · 09/07/2018 19:50

I just feel really gross with the warm weather, I don't know if I can go weeks without a decent wash Sad il get the flannel ready 😐

NOT baby wipes, bad for your skin. Use a flannel (or tea towel if you've no flannel) and wash your pits, bits and bum.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 09/07/2018 19:51

Eeek you poor thing. Sink and flannel job with plenty of wet wipes throughout the day to combat extra ickiness.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Flowers

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 09/07/2018 19:52

Aww poor you, hope you feel better soon. I personally would fill the sink and wash myself down with flannel. There are full body wipes you can get, that smell amazing, think they are Johnson's, but I've only ever seen them in Asda x

SadieHH · 09/07/2018 20:03

Ouch, sounds very painful. What about a Limbo for your leg. Not sure what to suggest for stomach though. You poor thing. Flowers

pandarific · 09/07/2018 20:12

Oh no, you poor thing! You'll be okay with the sink and a flannel if you get proper soap - how about getting someone to pick you up some, or buying online if not possible? (Personal fave: pink grapefruit or mandarin from the Body Shop, lovely and clean and zingy.)

Hannabee123 · 09/07/2018 20:14

Yeah I have a few things to keep refreshed I just don't like the idea of this heat going on and not having a decent wash. I'm gonna have to navigate my bits because my dressings go from stomach to leg and inside so gonna have to watch getting them damp

Know it's not the same but had a large tattoo on my front which they wrapped with dermalize which I think they use on burns/ large open wounds too and wasn't allowed to get that wet either (granted only for 4 days) but managed to shower and keep the area dry by duct taping bin bags over the area Blush too ages and looked ridiculous but it worked!

Would also have a word with them tomorrow when getting re bandaged as I'm sure they'll have useful suggestions to offer you.

Hope you heal up fast OP!

Timeisslippingaway · 09/07/2018 20:39

That's a shame OP my son was badly burnt in an accident when he was a toddler. It was horrific. His whole torso and one whole arm was bandaged. We used face clothes to give him a wash. But then he was only little so didn't need it as much as an adult. I hope your hospital experience wasn't as traumatic as his (as if the accident itself wasn't bad enough)

Hannabee123 · 09/07/2018 20:57

It's not been too bad I have some kind of miracle anaesthetic/burns cream under my dressings and decent painkillers it's just the logistics of washing because my right side from belly button down is in dressing. My leg should heal quite quickly but my stomach is full of stretch marks from pregnancy and weight gain so it's kinda horrific that will be the longest to heal and my leg dressings shouldn't be on for too long its still going to be crap to wash because it's all my lower stomach / thigh area that will take ages. So I think showering will be borderline impossible for a while. Feel gross!

Oh you poor thing! I scalded myself making cups of tea naked Blush knocked boiling water over my stomach and thighs. I coped just having flannel washes and washing hair at the sink until I could shower but you do feel horrid not being able to wash properly. Hope you heal quickly.

jarhead123 · 09/07/2018 21:26

Ouch! You poor thing :( No advice, just wanted to say I hope you're feeling better soon

Etymology23 · 09/07/2018 21:32

Could you ask for advice at the hospital/doctors when they change your dressings? They must have seen it all before so may have ideas.

I think personally I’d go for buying a bunch of flannels so you can have a clean one each day and some nice posh solid soap (or even just something not-own-brand - I like pears) and use that so you aren’t splashing water on you, but onto the flannel. For washing your top half, you could maybe have a towel wrapped round your waist?

Hair washing wise, do you someone who can help? Otherwise you might find the local hairdressing college will do a cheap wash if you explained (and could get there?)

Id probably also buy some spray deodorant - I hate the stuff but I do find it more effective than roll-on.

ShinyMe · 09/07/2018 21:37

Home Bargains have some festival camping body wipes - they're huge and towel sized and supposed to be instead-of-a-shower. 79p for two.
