To want a quick happy birthday text

It is my birthday and none of my family have messaged or called to wish me happy birthday. Its 11am but I'd normally call or message first thing to wish them happy birthday.

I'm seeing my sister and mum later and we had a family lunch at the weekend. Am I being a bit of a princess or is it just a nice thing to do? We have a family what's app and all use it to varying degrees. Some of my friends messaged this morning which is lovely. Just made me feel there was a gap there with family.

I think this is bugging me because it is part of a wider issue with my mum in particular of just feeling a bit uninterested in my life. So it is hard to judge individual situations / actions.

I don't think it's really being a bit princess, although others may say you are. It's nice to feel appreciated! Hopefully it's just people in their busy Monday Morning mode and will remember on their lunch break etc. Try to focus on that you're having lunch/doing things later on in the day with family and hopefully they'll be lovely. It's nice your friends remembered!

Just remember how much effort family put in, and reciprocate it on theirs

Depends what's usual for your family. Maybe you're the only one who bothers to send such messages. In my family, it would be unusual if you've already had a birthday lunch and/or given a card/present as well.

Maybe the weather is making everyone lethargic and they haven't got round to texting you yet.

I think expecting it from your DM and DSis is a little bit precious when they are seeing you for lunch. Other immediate family should have though.

Happy birthday, if its any consolation it's my birthday today as well, I've not heard from anyone either not a soul! I've spent the morning at hospital for a routine appointment but they were running behind 3hrs so was seen at 11 instead of 9 so only just home, not the best birthday but feet up and cup of tea

Judging others by our own standards never works as they are not us.

I'm like you and appreciate birthday texts, calls etc. but my lot don't bother to do it which saddens me but I've learned to accept it, well, I'm trying too..

It's true that judging others by our own standards tends not to work. I think it's just so hard to remember this and it doesn't mean that you don't still feel a bit hurt.
