To wonder what this light in the sky is?

Live in a fairly rural area. It's just fields behind the house. Every night when it gets dark, there is a light in the sky. It's in the exact same place every single night.
We don't think it's a star as the light is more like you'd see on a plane or helicopter.

At first I thought it was a plane but it never moves!

I don't have any binoculars and the camera on my phone doesn't so good close ups.

Any suggestions?!

A light on top of something really tall a long way away like a radio mast or something?

UterusUterusGhali · 08/07/2018 22:28

Planet?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 08/07/2018 22:29

Venus?
It's most visable at dusk rather than at night

Danceintherain2018 · 08/07/2018 22:30

It's too high up to be attatched to anything halfblind.

I'm not sure it's a planet as the light looks too artificial if that makes sense.

It sometimes moves a tiny bit, like a helicopter would if it was hovering and searching for something!

Download the SkyGuide app and see if it’s a star or planet?

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 08/07/2018 22:36

What direction is it in? Venus is very bright atm. Whereabouts are you?

megletthesecond · 08/07/2018 22:39

Venus I expect. I can often see it from my
DS's window.
I think Mercury is also visible around now?

Pinkstump · 08/07/2018 22:42

If its roughly due south then it is Jupiter, or due west and low in the sky Venus. Mars is further round to the east but also very bright (and red) right now.

UnGoogleable · 08/07/2018 22:46

What colour is it? White?

Does it flicker?

I'm guessing it's either a wind turbine or Venus.

wakemeupbefore · 08/07/2018 22:47

Clearly it's an USO.

Danceintherain2018 · 08/07/2018 22:50

We are south facing. The sky app is amazing! I didn't even know such a thing exsisted. The app says it's Jupiter :)

What's a USO??? An unidentified shining object??? Grin

MadameGazelleIsMyHomegirl · 08/07/2018 22:52

Stacking planes at a distant airport can look like this

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 08/07/2018 22:52

It'll be aliens - you mark my words (nods sagely...)

wakemeupbefore · 08/07/2018 22:54

So nice to meet a Great Brain across the internetty Grin.
Some folk may say it's Unidentified Statioanry Object though, however, they'll be clearly Wrong.

I see something similar most nights. I don't think its a star, it seems lower than that but too high to be connected to anything. I wondered at first if it was a helicopter but it is stationary when its there so I wondered about drones or other devices which just suspend there, I have come to the conclusion that there is stuff out there which I am unaware of, probably to do with the military and I am not going to dwell on it.
