AIBU to still be surprised by stupidity in this world?

This evening I was looking for information on how the rescue of the Thai children was going (seems to be going well, every finger crossed) and came across the main Twitter hashtag #Thaicaverescue.

There were quite a few posts criticising the rescue efforts - "Why didn't they just drill a hole on top of them?" "Why weren't they brought out straightaway?" "Why isn't it going faster?" As ever there were conspiracy theories - the Thai government milking the situation for attention apparently.

This is an operation of unimaginable complexity and risk led by the best experts in their field. And yet people whose experience of diving is probably limited to jumping in their local swimming pool think that they know better?

AIBU in finding this utterly depressing given what we know of the state of the world?

It's not stupidity, it's just pure laziness to find out the real situation.

I work for the emergency services in a control room. I regularly speak to people who begin conversations with 'I didn't know who to ring, there's a fire' Hmm

Ghostbusters perhaps?!

So no, I am never surprised by how stupid some people are.

Nope.

YADNBU.

The Tommy Robinson and Charlie Gard uproars from stupid people who couldn't grasp the legal process or medical reality is another incident that leaves me wondering at the intellectual and educational standard of Britain.

With the internet you get exposed to very profound levels of seriously stupid that ought to have health warnings attached. It's it good for the soul

People are either unable or not interested enough to grasp the concept of things so far outside their realm of experience.

I remember a cionversation with a colleague about the disappearance of mh170. She couldn’t grasp that looking for an aeroplane could be so hard. It’s not like earth is a big place or anything. I had to show her an image of the earth without water to get across the concept of underwater mountains and valleys. She had genuinely believed it was a flat beach like surface under the oceans.

Its not laziness, its STUPIDITY. I am astounded by it everyday.

BigPinkBall · 08/07/2018 20:44

I’m astounded by it every single day!

Years ago I was in a large DIY store and the customer in front of me was complaining that the laminate tile effect flooring he’d bought didn’t have the right amount in the box, the box was full so 2 store assistants laid out the flooring and measured it and showed him it was 20ft squared, his reply was “how could it possibly be 20ft squared when it was a rectangle, see it’s 5 tiles long and 4 tiles wide” I’ll never forget the look on the shop assistants face Shock
