Particularly feeling Ill after my run of 12 hour night shifts today.
Was woken by the kids arguing and partner stressing.

So I'll start by saying nothing pisses me off more than getting in at 8am, only for someone to say. "Oh you'll be up and organised by 12 won't you, seen as though it's your day off. Let's do something!"

Would you wake up at 12 midnight and then stay up? Ffs no thanks I'll vegitate in my jim jams all day. If you don't mind 😣

I worked nights for 4 years. Apparently that ment that I was available to take in parcels/ wait in for tradesmen/ childmind for various friends and family. Erm.......nope!

Feelingthepain · 08/07/2018 18:19

@GertrudeCB Oh jeez! That's the worst. Then they say.
"Are you still in bed!"

You do your best not to throat punch them Wink

I couldn’t do it, I live on a new estate with construction work and noisy cheeky neighbours. My dad did shifts and could sleep anytime/anywhere.

TheMagnificentEthel · 08/07/2018 18:24

I heard of a night shift worker whose relations would call during the day despite frequent reminders they would be in bed. A few 5am calls soon stopped that.

DilianaDilemma · 08/07/2018 18:26

Don't work nights anymore - but I used to. My marriage didn't survive me taking job that led to us suddenly actually having to see one another since our sleep cycles weren't totally opposed any longer ...

The total worst are saintly colleagues making you feel like a total slob. I have one who drives 2 hours home, stopping at an agreed place to swap the kids from her husbands car to hers. Takes them home, does school run, sleep 10-12, gets up and collects littlest from nursery, walks dog and does housework, school runs etc before loading all the kids in the car at 530 and driving 2 hours BACK to work, stopping en route to load the children into her husbands car as he drives back home. And then she says "and what are you doing today?". Erm, sleeping til 5?

Feelingthepain · 08/07/2018 18:41

Was just going to say I'm tempted to call a few people at 2am and say fancy a trip out 😂

@NC4T
Oh yes "THOSE" types are just as bad. It's just not normal Hmm

I don't function at all with no sleep. I'm literally the worst person ha. Still sat here in my jim jams and I intend to be in bed I'm the next hour.

We rent and have to allow access for regular inspections. They email beforehand and give us a week in which they will turn up at some point, any problems contact them, obviously I always do and ask that they do not come on the 2/5 week days that I sleep.
This has worked fine, up until the last inspection, where I woke up to find a strange man had let himself into the house on a day when they had been told to avoid. I genuinely nearly shit my pants and the guy seemed surprised that I was angry. It took far too many emails back and forward between the agency and the contractor to get them to acknowledge and understand why this may have been beyond fucking inappropriate.
I have now banned the agency from giving any contractors our house keys, pointing out that their systems clearly can't be trusted.

Oh, and trying to sleep in a heatwave, bad enough at night, almost flipping impossible during the day

Red grape your story has reminded me of when I came off a run of 6 nights , collapsed into bed happy in the knowledge that DH was taking the DC for dinner then cinema after school so I could get a good 8 hours .
An hour later I was shaken awake by FIL who had let himself in to use our loo ( with the "emergency" key) who demanded to know why I was still in bed at this time of day Angry
