Everyone doing something better?

AIBU to think I might be missing out when the weather is so nice? Today I am just going for a nice walk, buying an ice lolly on the way home and then just probably watching a film or reading a book. No plans to see anyone and can't be bothered to have a conversation anyway (hungover).

BUT... I feel like I should be doing something sociable and fun. I bet everyone else is going to a national park or hosting a BBQ or driving somewhere nice or sitting in a beer garden.

Days like today I'm glad loners like me are not on Facebook 😆

Sounds lovely! Nothing stopping you doing other things in your own if you want to though, no conversation required if you’re alone.

I’m just messing around in the garden with DS all day - sun, nibbly food from the fridge, occasional water pistol fight.

Foslady · 08/07/2018 12:55

I’m tidying round and washing - as usual. My dsis texted me this morning about an event 40 Miles away and was I going,
She forgets that I am still a lone parent with a schools aged child and not married with no mortgage and both children working/living away......my money this month has gone on theatre tickets for next year and two lots of spending money for School trips away.......(and I’m crapping myself about affording that with my tight budget I have to work to).
I actually got upset this morning over it all - don’t get me wrong, I’m happy her life has turned the corner, but at the moment all I seem to hear from her is about the latest massive purchase she’s made (and we’re talking £1000’s).......I just smile, tell her it’s lovely and while a part of me crumbles inside before going home to cry at failing to be able to do stuff with dd.

I'm studying so definitely missing out!
I often feel I should be doing something fantastic in nice weather. I think it's almost a British thing with me - quick! The sun's out! Do something amazing! But actually this is far too hot and I'm really not enjoying it.

Sickoffamilydrama · 08/07/2018 12:58

I'm going to sit in the garden and study it's easy enough to get the grass is greener syndrome but everyone has times of non exciting days.

ProudThrilledHappy · 08/07/2018 12:59

Every time I go outside I start melting, so I’m staying in. I did offer to take ds to a local beauty spot with play area etc and he said no so we are just hiding inside Blush

Gammeldragz · 08/07/2018 13:01

I tend to hide inside in this weather, as do my kids. We tried going to an event yesterday but it was too hot and water was £2 a bottle! Came home after half an hour and watched football.
I sometimes get a pang of guilt when friends/neighbours are all off out every day, but actually I could do those things, I just choose not to!

It's your life, do what you're happy with.

GreenEyedBlonde · 08/07/2018 13:32

Foslady - chin up mate I know how you feel. I've a friend who unintentionally makes me feel pretty inadequate too she has the house, the husband, the holidays, the great job etc and I don't have all that. But I have a loving family and good friends and a few other things. I think most of us measure ourselves to other people and we shouldn't. What do you have that you are happy about? Health? Healthy son? You sound like a good Mum xx Thanks

I'm going to watch the F1 then sit in my garden with a book! I have DH and DC though so kinda have to be sociable and speak to them, I do really look forward to alone time though!

dudsville · 08/07/2018 13:41

I'm literally floating around the garden
in a floaty skirt and top,
lying on the grass
under a tree drinking tea.

Godotsarrived · 08/07/2018 13:41

Was going to go for a walk but it is a bit too melty for me. So I’m going to the gym so I can walk there on the treadmill in the air conditioning.

goose1964 · 08/07/2018 13:44

I'm sitting around doing nothing , went to the St Paul's carnival yesterday and fell over because some idiot didn't know how to do a barbecue and all the fire lighter fluid he used temporarily blinded me. So I'm watching come dine with me and wallowing in self pity

ElementalHalfLife · 08/07/2018 13:45

We're doing much the same as you today, sounds lovely. We had a weekend away last weekend, went to a birthday bbq yesterday evening and I'm ready to not do anything or see anyone.

Right now very early my time, sipping my coffee and web browsing, sun's just come up and in a little while I'm going for a walk while it's still cool. I'll come back, DH will be up, we're having a cooked breakfast so we can just graze on snacks the rest of the day and I'm looking forward to the rest of my Sunday just chilling out with my book and maybe watching some crappy movie with DH on Netflix later.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 08/07/2018 13:46

Your afternoon sounds lovely & I'm jealous. I've got to take DS to a party later but between now & then I'll probably have to field numerous requests to do something or go somewhere which means I'll have to really fight the urge to scream fuck off & hide in my bedroom...

ElementalHalfLife · 08/07/2018 13:46

In the USA just in case anyone's confused by my timetable for the day. It's very early here. Grin

Crunchymum · 08/07/2018 13:48

Sitting in the inlaws garden. Bigger kids in paddling pool, baby is napping.

Going to have lunch (with prosecco) soon.

I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

rainbowfudgee · 08/07/2018 14:11

I'm in a pub garden and it's roasting. Looking forward to going home!

eggandspoonrace · 08/07/2018 14:19

Amazed how many of you are enjoying the garden and out and about. It's sooo hot I'm indoors. Feel bad but I'm finding it unbearable :-(

bsbabas · 08/07/2018 14:22

I tried on my old swimming costumes and it fit so anything else is just added gravy at the moment
