I am being totally unreasonable but SUMMER NOISE

STFUplease · 07/07/2018 22:53

Am desperate to sleep after getting none at all last night with baby - and she normally does a couple of hours around this time before we waking up every 30 mins to 1hr

It’s a Saturday night, England won the match, it’s summer so I KNOW I’m being unreasonable but all the noise is driving me insane! There were fireworks even though it wasn’t dark yet (?!) people dropping each other off in cars with pounding drum and bass, beeping each other to announce their presence and one of my neighbours has a terrible cough (not their fault I know and I feel for them), music in gardens

Argh! Can’t close window as will be too hot for baby (due to wake any minute) as it’s nearly 28 degrees in here

To reiterate, I know IABU

Someone round here must have spent a fortune on fireworks!! Expected noise... but not that.

It’s annoying, but reasonable for people to celebrate.. hopefully they’ll tire themselves out sooner rather than later..

Timeisslippingaway · 07/07/2018 22:58

Where are they getting fireworks at this time of year?

DesignStatement · 07/07/2018 23:01

Bonkers setting off fireworks when grass is tinder dry!

LEMtheoriginal · 07/07/2018 23:02

So you live diwn my road Op? We were laying on the bed earlier and i wanted to stand at my window and scream SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! Our street is usually pretty quiet

melodybirds · 07/07/2018 23:03

Are you sure you can't shut the windows for a couple of hours. I feel for you. Hopefully it will quieten down soon.

MotherforkingShirtballs · 07/07/2018 23:07

One of my neighbours has got 20-25 pissed up blokes in his garden, all talking and laughing, every 15 minutes or so they burst into a group rendition of "Vindaloo". We've also had a couple of Sex Pistols tracks, "Three Lions", and - the strangest of all - "Hit Me Baby One More Time". All bellowed at top volume and followed by "wuh-hey!!!" style cheers. They've got until midnight and then I'm going in the garden to shout "shut the fuck up" Grin

Lottapianos · 07/07/2018 23:10

I hear you OP. People seem to get about a hundred times louder when the sun comes out. Add football and alcohol into the mix and it's a total head wreck. Have fun, have a good time, blow off steam but pack it in with the shouting, shrieking, bellowing, singing and blaring music!

Notcontent · 07/07/2018 23:14

Oh, I so agree with you! Neighbours were having a football gathering but fortunately it finished early. But then I had the pleasure of a nearby concert with such thumping base that my house was vibrating. Previous two weekends neighbours had very loud parties outside, which I think kept half the street awake.

blondeemily · 07/07/2018 23:26

Yes! Was thinking the same thing earlier. Loud music, loud barbecues, garden parties...etc etc. Teenage lad next door has bedroom window wide open so we have to hear his shouting and gun sounds as he plays on his xbox. Love the nice weather and everything but the noise is a downside.
Next door has also been making the most of it by building a shed. He has set to it every evening and all weekend for the last couple of weeks. Constant banging and drilling. Getting a bit annoyed that we can't sit out in our own back garden and enjoy the weather without having to endure the noise of that.
Rant over! I hope you get some sleep soon OP.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 07/07/2018 23:29

One of my neighbours was noisily strimming at 9pm - its like the bloody Sahara out there, I'm staggered he found anything green enough to cut!

welshmist · 07/07/2018 23:32

Son worked in the pub tonight, had to drive through town to pick him up, so quiet all the pubs practically empty, I thought folk might be at home celebrating tonight.

KneesupGaston · 07/07/2018 23:52

YANBU can't wait til September so my loud dickhead neighbours crawl back under their rocks until next July.

househunthappening · 07/07/2018 23:56

Agree entirely, another reason why I hate summer (hayfever, heat and chub rub all on the list so far).

Literally can't wait for autumn when I can shut them all out and actually get some sleep

ShreddedFeet · 08/07/2018 00:33

It's the fucking dogs around here.
Why have a dog you are just going to leave barking? If I can hear it in my own house, why the fuck can't it's owners?
It's not just 1 dog. No one seems to give a shit. I feel like I'm living in the middle of Battersea Dogs Home.

luckycat007 · 08/07/2018 01:30

Op IMO you aren't unreasonable but I acknowledge I'm a grump.

In my area, anther thing happens: people drive like lunatics. What does the hot weather do to people? I feel some sort of human behavioural study coming on! Smile

I feel sorry for these yapping dogs left to yap for hours in folks gardens too...

Bloodybridget · 08/07/2018 02:08

Hope others on this thread are asleep by now. My bedroom is much too hot, I can't open the window because there's a party still going on down the road - not music but loud voices. Last night was almost sleepless due to heat and looks like this will be the same.

STFUplease · 08/07/2018 02:25

Thank you all for your empathy!

Am awake Bloodybridget but I did get an hour and a half sleep after posting

I hope everyone enjoyed their celebrations but am bloody glad they’ve finished now. The other one is chatting right under bedroom window - why?! It’s usually a quiet street but we’re end terrace and I suppose everyone walks by our house to walk dogs in cooler weather and bump into each other there.

Agree re noisy driving, we get that too, and suddenly people seem to have scooters!

My favourite though was the day I popped baby down for a nap and decided to sleep when baby sleeps as encouraged to by DH. Just drifted off only to wake to the sound of him digging in our front garden (right under bedroom window). I’m afraid I shouted out “fing shut up!”

I worried after that the neighbours would think I shouted at baby, but she was asleep so I hope they didn’t!

Ps @Bloodybridget I hope you do get a chance to sleep soon.

Ah thanks STFU, I thought I might do better if I put the tablet down and read a book. And I did sleep on and off. Off to cooler and rural north tomorrow so hoping for more zzzz!

InterstellarSleepingElla · 08/07/2018 08:48

@ShreddedFeet

We have exactly the same issue with so many dogs around us barking all the time. One sets another off and then the just don't shut up.

WhiteCoyote · 08/07/2018 09:10

My sympathies op Sad I’m getting really tired of summer noise too. I live right next to a bowls club and was treated to the sound of twenty elderly ladies getting very excited over the Elvis impersonator they’d hired until 11pm. I honestly thought they’d start throwing thier granny pants at him at one point Blush wouldn’t bother me so much if we’d just have one quiet night but events like this seem to have happened every single night for 3 weeks straight.
