AIBU wedding gift ideas for expat couple

AIBU to ask for wedding suggestions for a relative of mine who is an expat (lives in China). The couple is young and already live together so "traditional"/large gifts aren't exactly appropriate as they have to travel back to China next month. Have any of you got married recently? What was your favourite gift? Or what would you have liked?

I usually dislike doing this, but if they haven't created a gift list, just give them cash.

Cash and a nice card with a really thoughtful message. Unless they have a wedding list (I’m assuming they don’t), I would not want to be hauling whatever random stuff people buy back to China.

China - cash in a red envelope is the norm.

The Chinese give an Ang Pow (red packet) containing cash. I am sure this would be very welcome, even if they are not Chinese!

Cash!

What is a decent/semi- generous amount to give? The bride's family are very well off

I think you give what you can afford - what would you have wanted to spend if you had bought a wedding present?

My sister works for a jewellwers so we probably would've spent £200 in total but used her discount (50%) also.

Do you mean the gift value would have been £400 but you would have paid £200? I think that sounds very generous

would your sister be able to source a fabulous modern silver photo frame?
