To ask for party food inspiration?

It’s DDs 6th birthday at the weekend and she’s having a party in the village hall. Just doing my Asda order and everything just looks so.....beige! Would love some ideas of how to liven up the food from just sandwiches and crisps! There’s a full kitchen in the village hall and I’m off work until then so prepping isn’t an issue but obviously nothing too time consuming. What healthy, colourful food would you serve?

Party rings. It's not a party unless you have party rings.

If your aim is to brighten things things up garnish is your best bet. Finely shredded iceberg lettuce around the edge of serving plates, and halved cherry tomatoes and sliced cucumber will make the beige food look fresher and more inviting. They might even get eaten! Small bowls of strawberries or chunks of mango/pineapple would look nice too and will certainly get eaten.

Oh don’t worry, party rings safely in my basket! I’m worrying over nothing I’m sure, kids love beige food Grin

Top hats. For heathier cucumber, carrot and pepper sticks.

kitkatsky · 06/07/2018 11:45

Grapes, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, copped up pepper etc?

nc4ama · 06/07/2018 12:15

Fairy bread. You need that in your life

HopefullyAnonymous · 06/07/2018 12:16

Fruit kebabs are always popular

Babybearsporij · 06/07/2018 12:33

Crudites
Unicorn slices
Unicorn bark

Pikehau · 06/07/2018 12:38

I did fruit kebabs - strawberry and pineapple as I read they eat anything on sticks.... soaybe cheese cube hedgehogs in the 80’s were more than just fornshow :-)

I tend to do sausages pizza and sandwich and then crudités

However we had a 5th party last year and had wraps... and had grated cheese, salad stuff, salami and ham on offer and they went down a treat

Spaghettio · 06/07/2018 13:13

I used the beige food and made it more interesting. Kids will eat boring food, but this is a better way to present it.

Ha. I was gonna say fairy bread!

Eponymous · 06/07/2018 13:34

Make It JUST before the party or the colours run together.
It's basically soft white bread, butter and sprinkles. But do look up advice on how to stop the sprinkles getting all over the bloody kitchen.

Spaghettio that food looks amazing!

Spaghettio · 06/07/2018 14:02

It was actually really easy! Sliced peppers, sliced cucumbers and shape cutters for the sandwiches. There's lots of idea on Pinterest.

I'm not the type that normally does that stuff - but it was so simple I might become "that" person now!

YesILikeItToo · 06/07/2018 14:10

Spaghettio, I'm sure you will become that person - what I've recently found to love about this stuff is you only need to get the ideas once, it's totally fine to roll them out year after year...

Jelly boats in orange segments are the brightest thing on my list.

YesILikeItToo · 06/07/2018 14:13

Oh, healthy, sorry. Maybe not a jelly boat. I do things on sticks stuck into grapefruit halves.

Party rings aren't that bright anymore - its the all natural colours.
