I have to light candles with a stick type lighter. Or else use LED ones. Anyone else the same? I suppose a fear of getting burnt isn't that irrational........

I hate lighting matches! I don’t have a fear of getting burnt, I just feel panicky if I have to use them! Xx

Phobia? really? you run screaming? paralysed with fear? adrenaline rush? every time you see some one strike a match? on the telly even? Or you simply don't like matches?

"phobia" is an irrational, obsessive and abnormal fear. One which affects every day life.

My fear is the candles themselves ever since my 17 year old daughter set her hair on fire leaning forward to blow out candles on her birthday cake! I reached over, grabbed her hair & put it out with my bare hands because I could see in a matter of seconds her whole head would have been on fire....

That was 10 years ago and I still think of it and feel slightly on edge every time I'm in a room with candles

Sorry perhaps it was OTT calling it a phobia. Perhaps I could strike a match if my life depended on it.

I have a similar thing about yolky eggs, started as a dislike and has built over the years into something much more - not quite on the scale as my great white shark in a swimming pool phobia (I know they wouldn’t survive, but they are there!!).

The yolk thing is a problem because I physically feel sick and make stupid and ridiculous wrenching noises when I see a yolky egg being popped (think of that M&S advert!). My husband isn’t allowed them and if we are out can only pop one when I am not looking!
