To just stay in bed?

Its my day off. I work 40+ hours a week. Including one day a week intensive college course. This years college is over this week and i sat (and passed) the exam yesterday.

I SHOULD be tidying my house or doing something in the garden but so far im still in bed. DP wants to go for lunch - hes working from home today.

I suffer from anxiety/depression and ive just emerged from a really shitty period of stress and meltdowns and im TIRED

But i feel like im wasting my day. I work 8.30-6.30 the rest of the week and the job is full on and stressfull.

I was going to do so much with the day but im just in bed on my phone

Laze in the garden instead-get some fresh air & sun that way?

LEMtheoriginal · 05/07/2018 11:13

Also feel a bit lost as i have been pretty much coming home from work and studying and fitting in housework around revising on my day off. I feel a bit aimless today

Sometimes you just need a day to relax at home, don't feel guilty about it

AnnUnderTheFryingPan · 05/07/2018 11:13

Get off your phone.

Fine to stay in bed, read, doze, whatever.

But your phone is sucking the time away from you and you’ll regret it later.

I am going to work now. I have been on my phone for half an hour pissing about on here. I could have hung the laundry out and answered my work emails.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 05/07/2018 11:13

Will you genuinely feel better if you stay in bed? If so, do it!

I occasionally stay in bed all day (chemo side effects) but often I find it actually makes me feel a bit bleurgh and I would have been better getting up and pottering.

Imnotaslimjim · 05/07/2018 11:13

Taking the time to look after yourself is not a wasted day. Had a comfort day - some treats you like, a full you've been wanting to watch, an easy-to-cook evening meal and a hot saok in a bath if that's your thing. I put a lot of store in self-care, most people don't spend enough time on it.

LEMtheoriginal · 05/07/2018 11:15

Its actually miserable out - cloudy and muggy!! If it were cooler id defiantly dothat.

There is a book onthe side nagging me to read it. Ive onlytried this book about ten times

If it was cold and rainy and miserable I would say snuggle up in bed .

But it’s GLORIOUS outside and you probably know depression is helped by getting outside.
Why don’t you go to M&S, get some sandwiches and lovely deli stuff and go for a picnic somewhere quiet? Take a book or treat yourself and hubby to a magazine, take a blanket and even a pillow and then you can relax in the sun and fresh air.
Or, if you live close to the beach go and have a walk on the beach , have a paddle and then eat fish and chips!
You die in bed. Come on , haul your ass out, quick shower, bit of lip gloss and you can be out for 12.
My hubby is autistic and suffered with depression and anxiety as well as a multitude of other things.
You are lucky to have a hubby who wants to take you out - wish I did.

So kick those negative feelings into the corner and DO something nice together. Dont waste your day.
Put your phone Down! Now! Go on............

AnnUnderTheFryingPan · 05/07/2018 11:24

It’s pissing about on phones which is the problem, not the being in bed.

(I have not moved, the laundry is still in the washer and i’m Still pissing about on MN).

@LEMtheoriginal

I'm in bed too! I don't start work until 4. Had planned to get the house blitzed and do some shopping but here I am still in bed.

I don't do it very often but when I do I never regret it!

LEMtheoriginal · 05/07/2018 11:29

I know i know .....i need to get up. We live by the sea and its actually brightening up. Just another five minutes then.....

Go and clear out the kitchen drawer (you know the one) and go back to bed feeling truly accomplished.

LEMtheoriginal · 05/07/2018 13:10

I got up and had a bath. Grin sole achievement of the day. Now snuggled up with my dog waiting for dp to take me for lunch Grin

YANBU! We all need to rest sometimes.

The housework will still be there tomorrow.
I've been in bed all day too. I work 37.5 in an emergency department, on my feet all day. My previous days off have been full on housework, childcare and errands, and tomorrow is an inset day and I have fun planned. Today I've had 6 hours to myself and I have spent it in bed. Bliss Brew

It's good for your cardiovascular health, immune system, mental health... why not. You drive yourself down if you don't do it from time to time.

LEMtheoriginal · 05/07/2018 15:57

Thankyou everyone - i needed that! I was busy heading for total burn out. Had a lively lunch with dp iverlooking the sea. Niw going to meet dd and take her for an ice cream.

I love lazy days sometimes, it gives you chance to recharge your batteries. Go for it I say.

helpfulperson · 05/07/2018 17:39

Sounds like a good plan to me. When I need a recharge batteries day I lie in bed and listen to an audio book.
