The ice cream and the bowl

So this happened a few weeks ago but can't stop thinking about it...

Went to the shops after the park with my friend and they had Ben and Jerry's very cheap. My friend immediately got a tub but it wasn't until the last minute that I decided screw it, I want some ice cream.

We went back to her house (it's on the way home so had to head that way anyway) and as I walked in I told her "f@&k it I am having some ice cream" (had a rough day and it has been baking hot)

Got her going "OK... But put it in a bowl as DH is funny about that sort of thing!"

Thought ermmmmm OK, I mean he's not even here but sure. Sure enough gobble up some ice cream and it was wonderful (I love ice cream so much).

Friend then tried to pack away my ice cream. I mean sweet as it was so hot but had to go home very soon. Asked her what she was doing and got a confused face. So clearly thinks I'm fat (I'm a whale and know it) and it's trying to help me not eat too much but feels a bit weird. It was this point I told her ice cream pot was behind her to laughter.

She didn't realise I changed my mind at the last minute about getting ice cream so thought I walked into her house demanding ice cream, hence putting it in a bowl.

It's been weeks, we still are laughing about it. Remember ladies that there may be another side of the story - someone might think you are demanding their ice cream.

There are so many times on here that miscommunication seems to be the issue. So let's all talk more and be open (over a huge bowl of ice cream preferably)

So AIBU to want to know your funniest moments of miscommunication (or ice cream stories... I think I have a problem)

OP posts:
Knittedfairies · 04/07/2018 17:29

I have no idea what happened with the ice cream. One of us has been out in the sun too long...

EdmundCleverClogs · 04/07/2018 17:31

I think this must have been one of those ‘you had to be there’ stories.

werideatdawn · 04/07/2018 17:36
Hmm
yawning801 · 04/07/2018 17:37

Was it Rum and Raisin, OP? In other words, are you drunk as I have no clue what you're on about?

moronseverywhere · 04/07/2018 17:41

The fuck? Hmm

DevilsDoorbell · 04/07/2018 17:42

I get what you’re talking about. Took me a couple of reads but I know what you mean and you’re right, we all need to not jump to conclusions and communicate more

PanPanPanPing · 04/07/2018 17:42

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't understood this. I mean, I'm sure it was funny at the time, but I'm very ... Confused

LOL7 · 04/07/2018 17:47

I think the OP means her friend didn't realise she bought her own ice cream, then when she got to her house she demanded some (of her own) ice cream so the friend told her to put it in a bowl as her oh doesn't like people eating ice cream out of the tub if he's going to eat it too, then when the friend went to put it away op asked what she was doing and the friend thought she meant she wanted to eat more of her ice cream. When actually op was eating her own ice cream and her friends tub was untouched behind her!
I'm sure it was funny if you were there Grin

ElementalHalfLife · 04/07/2018 17:48

I get it too, OP. Silly misunderstanding, glad you could both laugh about it. Enjoy the rest of your ice cream.

Your thread op!
Miscommunication

Kool4katz · 04/07/2018 17:50

I think...
Friend had bought ice cream whilst out shopping and OP then bought a second tub for herself.

Friend thought OP was helping herself to her ice cream hence asking her to decant some into a bowl rather than letting OP eating straight from the tub.

Friend tried to put OP's tub of ice cream into her own freezer.

Hilarious. Wink

MrsEricBana · 04/07/2018 17:50

I see what you're saying but poorly put 😂

Nothisispatrick · 04/07/2018 17:51

I think you need to read that back OP, it makes no sense.

Kool4katz · 04/07/2018 17:51

Oops, sorry cross post with lol7.

RestingBitchFaced · 04/07/2018 17:54

Wow, that was hard work. I read it twice and had no idea what was going on, thanks to the other posters who made it clearer

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/07/2018 17:55

There’s a certain kind of irony to this statement, given the confusing nature of your op Smile

Caribbeanyesplease · 04/07/2018 17:57

You had to be there

But what really gets me is that this happened “weeks ago”

ElementalHalfLife · 04/07/2018 17:57

It's like a story I read about a man on a train; he'd bought himself one of those little packs of biscuits to snack on. He was reading and out of the corner of his eye, to his surprise, he saw the man sitting opposite him reach out open the packet and take a biscuit. A bit indignant but reluctant to cause a scene by saying something he reached out pulled the packet towards him and took a biscuit himself whereupon the stranger opposite angrily snatched up the packet, stuffed the last biscuit in his mouth and stomped away. When our man got off the train a couple of stops later he was feeling in his pocket for his ticket and found...well, you know the rest.

This thread, I have no idea what's going on!

DextroDependant · 04/07/2018 17:59

Ice cream aside, and I get what the OP Meant with the story. You make a valid point. People are so quick to fly of the handle and take offense and often it's just a misunderstanding. Talk to each other.

NotTakenUsername · 04/07/2018 18:00

I don’t understand the fuss - post is missing a few words but the sentiment is crystal clear to me.

Lovely post op, thank you for sharing. (Even though you aren’t really sharing because I bought my own at the last minute without you realising... Wink!!)

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 04/07/2018 18:02

One of the worst miscommunications I have ever been a part of: a friend had a baby girl a few months before my daughter was born. I had a really difficult birth, lots of blood loss, transfusions, in hospital for a week afterwards etc and was a bit spaced out.

Friend came to see me and brought clothes her daughter had outgrown and another bag full of the most beautiful hand knitted clothes that her mother had made for her girls and she said "You can do what you like with this bag but when you have finished with them I would like to have these (the hand knitted ones) back."

That made perfect sense to me - they were the sort of things you would hope your grandchildren could wear, they were exquisite. I was grateful for the clothes she had given me but was worried about caring for the others. I said that the home made things were lovely (or at least I think I did) but I added (and this is the bit she heard!) " I will only use them if I am desperate.

I would have been terrified of damaging these finely knitted patterned cardis and dresses. There were hours of work in each one.

But I later found out that my friend was hurt that I would only consider using them if I absolutely had to. They clearly were not good enough for my daughter!

Fortunately my mum got to hear of the friend's upset and casually mentioned "Of course Hairbrush is so grateful for the clothes you passed on but she is really nervous about using the lovely handmade clothes. They are far too lovely for her to risk damaging them!"

Friend finally understood and we are still friends 25 years later!

But OP is so right. Miscommunication can ruin friendships.

Shumpalumpa · 04/07/2018 18:02

It was this point I told her ice cream pot was behind her to laughter.

You mean it was in her freezer?

Sounds like a lot of your miscommunications could be avoided OP.

This reminds me of mum who starts her stories from the middle and then gets annoyed at me for not understanding wtf is going on.

arethereanyleftatall · 04/07/2018 18:03

Oh the irony

nervousnails · 04/07/2018 18:04

What? So you ate ice cream and she... Fuck it. I give up.
