Honey panic!! Help

Please someone talk me down from this state I've got myself into, or am I being completely correct to be having a major panic over this.

My little one turns one in 2 weeks and the nursery have given him honey on toast today (I've just read it in his book).

Will he catch botulism? I've seen so many scary stories and heard so much I'm honestly panicking so bad right now.

Helpppp. I've tried phoning my health vis but no answer:

The guidance says they shouldn't have it under one but there's no magic switch that flicks between now and two weeks time to make it ok for him to have it so as he's so close to one I wouldn't panic. I would however have a word with the nursery - I'm very surprised at them giving honey at all.

He'll be fine.

The risk is miniscule, and your child is a year old.

Haberpop · 04/07/2018 15:24

The risks are tiny, really, really tiny. I can't remember the last time I heard of an outbreak of botulism much less botulism from honey in the UK.

I’m sure he will be fine as he is so close to one year; I still wouldn’t be happy with nursery giving him honey, even if there wasn’t any risk of botulism why give such a young child something so sweet and sugary to eat? Hmm As an occasional treat maybe but at nursery?

ginandnappies · 04/07/2018 15:34

Thanks all. Just got myself into a massive tizz. Yeah I'm away to phone the nursery, I'm not happy at all with it. You'd think they would know the guidelines and I agree it's too sugary and sweet. No wonder he was apparently bouncing off the walls Angry

He'll be fine. You know it's not a magic switch from 'dangerous' to 'safe' on the night of their birthday right?

The honey thing is just precautionary.

Yeah I do know that I just get into panics quite easily.

I don't know, just pretty disappointed with the nursery.
