Why are so many modern female protagonists alcoholics?!

It seems that in every new book (out in the last couple of years) written by a woman and with a female protagonist (excluding ones set in the past) that I've read recently, the protagonist has serious alcohol issues. It's literally been mentioned in the opening chapter of all of these books. I'm really bored of it and I can't relate at all! Has anyone else noticed this??

no I haven't.

Which books are these? There's so much to read, could be a total coincidence.

I think in general there is a trend in literature at the moment (like, for the past decade) for 'unreliable witness' protagonists which keeps the reader on their toes or reveals the plot more slowly as if through layers of meaning
so there are loads of alcoholics, mental health and dementia sufferer protagonists
I think that's probably it
