To ask for positive feedback about Marine Cadets

DS went to an induction evening for Marine Cadets yesterday evening. He came back buzzing and desperate to do it. They allow kids from 9-17. He is 9. I feel this is really young for it. DH is fine with it.

My main issues are it's twice a week 1830 to 2030, which I think is late for a 9 year old as he'll not be in bed until 2115 or so twice a week. It's also a total ball ache when I'm away for work as DH will have to juggle putting DD (7) to bed and then getting a neighbour to come and sit while he picks up DS and it limits who can do what twice a week.

They have two weekend camps in the first six months. I'm feeling all PFB about him going away for something so out of my control.

So yes, really I know IABU but I need some patting down please!

I would say that if the Marines thought 9 was too young they wouldn't offer sessions from 9 years.
DS will have a ball, and if DH is prepared to juggle child care, then you should at least let DS try it out.

On the other hand, he will learn team skills, have a blast and be doing something healthy! Do it!

DD (12) joined nearly a year ago and loves it. It's been a really positive experience so far. As already mentioned I'm sure it must be suitable for younger children or it wouldn't be on offer. It may not suit everyone but worth trying :)

Thanks for the comments. You're right, they must have thought about the 9 years old being lumped in with the 17 year olds and assessed it properly.

DH is going to be the one this impacts most I guess as his cycle training night is the same night and he's going to have to cut that short to pick up so we'll give it a go and see how it goes.
