To think AMA should be a separate topic in talk?

No problem with the 'ask me anything' threads, but how about making a separate area for them since they're overtaking chat?

OP posts:
Butttons · 03/07/2018 00:06

I second that! They're getting to be a bit of a pita

RainbowsAndSmiles · 03/07/2018 00:10

The piss take ones are annoying, but the serious ones are really interesting. YABU, just scroll by threads that don't interest you.

ZenNudist · 03/07/2018 00:14

Another vote here for its own topic ( i can hide).

Most boring mumsnet trend ever.

I also have a real problem with self appointed unvetted experts claiming to offer the whole story on a certain lived experience. Utter bollocks.

beluga425 · 03/07/2018 00:40

What are they?

genuineOCDsurvivor · 03/07/2018 00:46

That would be a good idea actually. I did one. I found it helpful and found being asked questions therapeutic. Would be nice to have a space for those threads that doesn't annoy others though

TheCraicDealer · 03/07/2018 00:50

Good god, yes. We're getting a bit bombarded at the moment.

I used to read AMAs on reddit and they're interesting, but they have their own section for them on that forum so you can skim through when it takes your fancy. It would also be a good "home" for webchats/AMA requests with celebs/politicians/etc, which again is what reddit do.

pallisers · 03/07/2018 00:51

yes please for the love of god please.

AgathaRaisonDetra · 03/07/2018 01:11

The God AMA and MIL AMA are classics though.

AHometownGypsy · 03/07/2018 01:13

Yes please, I have found some very interesting but would prefer them all in one place

LighthouseSouth · 03/07/2018 01:20

@CupofCake

"What are they?"

Absolute shite. I thought MN was being trolled or something. A separate topic to hide is a great idea!

morekidsthanhands · 03/07/2018 01:20

Or maybe redirect everyone to reddit?

SouthWestmom · 03/07/2018 06:54

The happy hooker ones are fucking weird.

maskingtape · 03/07/2018 06:56

It's a fad. It'll pass.

Theycouldhavechoseneve · 03/07/2018 07:26

I don’t see the value when they are job based and the OP is one of many thousands, hundreds of thousands who does that job as they can only answer from their own perspective. I’ve witnessed teacher, midwife, doctor and HV disagreements on approach to the job so asking my burning questions to any one of those on an anon Internet forum isn’t useful. It’s self indulgent at best

GlassSuppers · 03/07/2018 07:31

YANBU

I'm fed up of them too.

00100001 · 03/07/2018 07:34

You to being a fad. Just hide the posts until the novelty wears off!

Laiste · 03/07/2018 07:34

I missed the God and MIL ones. Bugger.

longwayoff · 03/07/2018 07:35

Dont care but they're not compulsory. Dont read them.

beluga425 · 03/07/2018 08:14

Ok, thanks for explaining they are 'shite' but I am still none the wiser.

I don't go on the chat board much.

ILoveMyDressingGown · 03/07/2018 08:16

God yes I'm sick of hiding them. If I don't hide them that's all I can see on the active conversations list.

surferjet · 03/07/2018 08:16

I hide every single one now - yesterday alone I must havw hidden about 15.

Getting ridiculous now.

beluga425 · 03/07/2018 08:23

ffs even a keyword search on AMA hasn't helped. Just loads of AIBU threads like this one, loads of replies to some poster called ama, and baby names threads on Amabel.
Please, for the love of God, what is an AMA thread?

ILoveMyDressingGown · 03/07/2018 08:25

I'm a [insert something boring and dull], Ask Me Anything

UpstartCrow · 03/07/2018 08:28

Ask Me Anything.
The first one was by someone who works in a crematorium and was really interesting. I think that one has been moved to classics. The second one was by someone who works in a hospice.

I think they should have their own section now.

beluga425 · 03/07/2018 08:45

Ok, I get it, thanks. Yes, no point if its the same job 100,000 other people do.

Off to look the first two up...
