To take DD away for her birthday?

DD is turning two soon. Last year for her first birthday we were on holiday in Spain. This pissed some people off.

This year, DP and I are getting married (very soon) and having a 10 night honeymoon. So before all that we want to take DD away for a mini holiday so we can spend some quality time with her before we go away. As it happens the only free time we have will be over her birthday.

This has already pissed off some family. Thing is however, DD is only 2. I wouldn't throw a party as I think she's too young. If we did stay for her birthday we'd probably takes her out for the day anyway. She doesn't do well with a room full of people constantly fighting for her attention.

Not at all YANBU other people shouldn’t dictate what you do with your child.

I would do a little tea party for family before you go away, it’s natural people that care about her want to celebrate a little and cake etc with grandparents couldn’t hurt could it?

Mine are only little and while I agreee a huge party isn’t needed a little tea party for grandparents, aunt & uncle is a lovely thing.

Yes still go on your holiday over her birthday

We have a big a big family between us so a little tea party isn't possible without offending people (6 grandparents, 6 great grandparents and 8 uncles/aunties).

Plenty of time for parties when she is old enough to understand/enjoy them. What you are planning for age 2 sounds lovely - you will be able to go with the flow a bit and do what suits the three of you. Have a lovely time.
