... to think that this can't be anything horrible?

I had a blood test last week and was told to make an appointment for 2 weeks later, which I did.

I got a voicemail message today from my doctor saying she needs to speak to me. I called back and can't a phone appointment til next week.

If it was something awful they wouldn't make me wait that long, would they?

Just posting for a bit of reassurance really...

Probably not, it depends on how busy your surgery is I suppose.
Hope it works out for you.

What were the tests for? As a rule, ‘something’ would’ve been found if they call but it might not be serious.

For example, I had an unusual haemaglobin type discovered - no affect on my health but they wanted to have a conversation about it.

Did you not say you were returning the doctor’s call? I would’ve thought the doctor would’ve called again.

My surgery is like this:

  1. No call - normal results
  2. The receptionist calls to make an appointment - something needs attention but not urgent.
  3. Doctor calls - something needs a follow up/further information/something more serious. If they couldn’t get to you they’d say on the message to get in touch but not leave any further information.

It obviously depends on what your tests were for. Hope it’s all ok.

When something major was found on one of my tests I had the surgery ring me offering me a call with the GP the same day!
So yours is probably something but not awful.

It doesn't necessarily mean it's life and death but they need to speak to you. You definitely need to say you were returning the doctor's call.

The blood tests were for possible arthritis

I did say I was returning the doctors call. The receptionist said she'd left a note on the screen saying I needed to make an appointment for a phone call and further blood tests

I’m sure if was urgent they wouldn’t make you wait.

I had this ages ago and I was just slightly anemic which was fixed with a course of iron tablets
