has more money than sense, our plasma telly which is 13 years old is on the fritz, it is not repairable, so today after i finished work he dragged me round Currys to look at TVs, i found 3x 55 inch ones in the £400 to £600 range , good makes (Toshiba, Samsung) so we go home and what has he done, what he intended to do all along and ordered one that is £1400, why?. will the expensive one give a better picture, last longer, look better, i just think why spend all that extra money on a goggle box

"the expensive one give a better picture, last longer, look better"

Most likely.

CoralFish · 28/06/2018 14:08

YABU if it's what he wants and you can afford it. YANBU if there are other things that money should be prioritised on and/or you frequently have to do without due to his extravagant spending. I don't understand spending that much money on a TV either, but there are lots of things I buy which DP would think are a ridiculous amount of money...

Merryoldgoat · 28/06/2018 14:10

You value different things. The issue is does this impact negatively on your family?

Spending £1400 is fine if you can meet all other financial commitments. If you are finding things right and he does that then of course YANBU.

no problem with finances he can afford it and i work too , just the stingy in me thinks why spend the extra

has more money than sense well that suggests he can afford it so I'm not sure I see the problem..? Yes the more expensive one will be better, that is generally true of this kind of technology.

You may think of it as a 'goggle box' but he clearly doesn't, we are all individuals. 13 years old was good going, he doesn't sound that extravagant to me!

Quartz2208 · 28/06/2018 14:13

yes its a bit like a 3 star or 4 star hotel

we bought a £500 one for the front room (not used as much/for gaming) and you can definitely tell the difference

Gottagetmoving · 28/06/2018 14:55

I don't see the problem if you can afford it. He wants a better one, so why not?

DobbyisFREE · 28/06/2018 16:22

I would probably be annoyed that he had made the decision without me but not that annoyed about the decision that was made. As others have said the difference in cost will mean a much better picture which is quite noticeable on 55 inch TVs.

RedSkyAtNight · 28/06/2018 16:48

He values a good quality TV and wants to spend money on it (in our household we would agree it first, but I wouldn't have an issue in principle). I bet there are other items that you value spending money on, but he thinks are a waste ...?

MsHomeSlice · 28/06/2018 16:52

I would not have wasted my time schlepping round stores with him if I even had an inkling he would do this.

I would also delegate ALL purchasing of all electrical goods to him for ever more. ....let him waste his own time.
