Panini

I'm most disgruntled

Ordered a Brie and cranberry panini and it was more cranberry than Brie

Aibu to think it should be both ingredients in equal measures and not a cranberry roll with a hint of cheese?

-sulks at thought of fruity bread -

Definitely not BU! I suggest you return and demand the cheese that is rightfully yours.

On the other hand... a brie and cranberry panini which is mainly just cranberry is almost a jam sandwich. Which is delicious. So maybe you ARE being U!

runsmidgeOMG · 27/06/2018 22:40

I like the idea of demanding my rightful cheese 😂😂

I do love jam sandwiches but this was different...

Yanbu to think they should be equal measures!!

Wolfiefan · 27/06/2018 22:50

That is a crime against lunches. Completely unacceptable. Send in the cheese police.
(Only slightly joking. I love Brie and would be gutted at that! Blush)

Janeinthemiddle · 27/06/2018 22:51

Bang out of order!

ClandestineAdulation · 27/06/2018 22:52

YABU. I think I would prefer 75% Brie and 25% cranberry!

DroningOn · 27/06/2018 22:55

I once ordered a pepperoni and jalapeño pizza that was in a 1/10 ratio in favour of the chillies. Oh, we've run short on pepperoni at the moment but have given you extra jalapeños instead was the explanation

runsmidgeOMG · 27/06/2018 23:00

Wolfie Cheese police ?! How do I contact them for this violation ?? 😂😂

@ClandestineAdulation** you would have loved this sandwich, I'll send the next one your way !!! 👍🏻

Droning that's totally unacceptable, bet that was a bit hot to eat !

I thought you were my DF on to complain that you cannot have a panini as that is the plural of panino. I have to stop him correcting menu boards. Grin

Superbirdtrooperbird · 27/06/2018 23:00

When I was pregnant with DD I bought a hoisin duck wrap in Marks and 'Spensive which contained precisely 2 chunks of duck and a lot of lettuce. I hadn't eaten that day and was feeling a bit light headed so while DMum was packing and paying for her shopping I started to eat it. As we were leaving I commented to mum about the lack of duck and the manager, who had been walking behind us, said 'well we can't have that, wait there' and went to get me another one and a bag of crisps as well. I was properly chuffed!

ClandestineAdulation · 27/06/2018 23:05

runsmidgeOMG I’m shuddering at the thought, WHY would you have more cranberry than Brie?!

That’s like having more ketchup than fries!!!

OhHelpNooo · 27/06/2018 23:10

I'm with your DH forthispostonly It's not a sodding panini! Even worse 'choice of panini's' OH GOD MY EYES!!!!
Anyway yeah who wants a bloody cranberry sandwich. It's brie WITH cranberry. The brie's the main event, for sure. Oh god that reminds me (off to start thread)

JellyTeapot · 27/06/2018 23:12

Forthispostonly, my DM was getting rather twitchy at a menu offering "panini's" the other day - quite surprised she didn't take a red pen to it!

Forthispostonly · 27/06/2018 23:14

DF will be pleased that he is not alone in his irritation. Smile

malmi · 27/06/2018 23:19

In English, panini is established as the singular and panini or paninis as the plural.

runsmidgeOMG · 27/06/2018 23:20

My apologies @ClandestineAdulation
I misread your post... I shall keep my fruit based, minimal cheese breaded sandwich to myself, though might ask for more next time
(Had to keep disgruntledness under wraps as trying to also keep 2 yo happy at the same time!)

So is the proper term "panino " never heard of that, I shall keep it in mind 👌🏻

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/06/2018 23:22

In English, panini is established as the singular and panini or paninis as the plural

What? Because we're ignorant?

Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino. Panino.

runsmidgeOMG · 27/06/2018 23:22

Also Brie is of course the main event !!!!!! Love Brie, and Camembert...

*thinks about baking whole Camembert in fridge

ClandestineAdulation · 27/06/2018 23:23

No worries runsmidgeOMG it’s clear to me that we are both incredibly passionate about the rights and wrongs of food!!!

malmi · 27/06/2018 23:27

For the same reason that 'un parking" is French for a car park

ThePants999 · 27/06/2018 23:50

What? Because we're ignorant?

Because we're not speaking Italian, we nicked the word into English and did it our way.

HildaZelda · 27/06/2018 23:54

YANBU, but I don't agree about equal measures. You definitely need more brie than cranberry and let's be honest, some bacon in there never hurt anyone.

EatMyGoal · 28/06/2018 00:05

Just because something is widely used, it doesn’t make it correct 😉

IsAnyoneElseMissingCheese · 28/06/2018 00:08

Also came here to say panino Wink

ThePants999 · 28/06/2018 00:09

Just because something is widely used, it doesn’t make it correct

When it comes to language, it certainly does. How else does language change? Who defines "correct" if not common usage?

If common usage can't define language, then we're all using English incorrectly, as every change from the now-unintelligible English of hundreds of years ago has come about from people widely using something different from the previous norm.
