To be utterly baffled by what a bad looking knee is

Yet another friend today telling me she hates this weather as she has “awful knees” and she doesn’t like displaying them in shorts/skirts.

I must have seen thousands, nay, millions of women’s knees in my lifetime - fat ones, skinny ones, young ones, old ones, knobbly ones, muscly ones, the full range - and never once have I thought “gosh that woman has horrible looking knees”.

Is this a thing now? Should I be worried about the state of my knees? I sort of thought they were one body part immune from scrutiny or criticism - after all, they’re a pretty freaky thing when you think about it. Just a patella hovering in a bunch of cartilage (ewww).

I read about some celebrity (can't remember who now) having a knee lift to improve the look of their knees Confused. Crazy.

ILoveDolly · 26/06/2018 21:32

I've got skinny legs and my knees look enormous and lumpy in comparison to the rest of my legs. No one would ever think I had nice legs despite the long slimness of them because I've got these great wobbly knees. You can't do anything about the bastards either.

ILoveDolly · 26/06/2018 21:33

Knee cosmetic surgery??!!!!. Mind. Blown.

Thingsthatmakeyougoummmmm · 26/06/2018 21:35

It's strange as I do look at other peoples knees. I have had 15 operations on knee and have had a knee replacement. My knees look awful and I'm envious of others 😊

RandomMess · 26/06/2018 21:37

My Mum always criticised my knobbly knees...

I have otherwise good legs do hope my ugly knees don't offend anyone!

GallicosCats · 26/06/2018 21:39

Sadly this doesn't surprise me. Cankles, knobbly knees, fat noses, fingers too long or too short. Confused My DD's bugbear is her 'three-head' (forehead you can only fit three finger widths on). Which she inherits from me. Grin

GallicosCats · 26/06/2018 21:41

Oh, and the big news about all these so-called flaws is, nobody over the age of 16 or so cares about or notices them.

squidgesquodge · 26/06/2018 21:42

I have bad knees. I can't quite work out how or why they are different but even in primary school I knew they were a different shape to other people's. Other people's are pointed; mine are flat.

GrainneWail · 26/06/2018 21:51

Fuck sake. I didn't know what a three head is so I just checked and I have one. To go with my fat knees. Sad

Stroller15 · 26/06/2018 21:54

I've got ugly knees and barely ever wear shorts/skirts - somehow they have cellulite! Also, apparently have a four-head...

GenerationX2 · 26/06/2018 21:59

OMG - I hate my knees they are so fat and bumpy - I just hate how the look. But I still were shorts because its so hot where I live. A couple of years ago when every dress in the shops were above the knee was a nightmare for me - I am a big fan of the mid calf ones that are out now

Snowdayfet · 26/06/2018 22:04

Yes yes, you all hate your knees, I get that.

But you knee-self-loathes, do you regularly find OTHER people’s knees offensive?

Knees are quite ugly though...mine certainly are. One summer I will wear short shorts but I'm not knee ready sadly.

10storeylovesong · 26/06/2018 22:07

Knees are one of the first things I notice on other women. I can’t even tell you why.

Andylion · 26/06/2018 22:08

Also, apparently have a four-head

I have a five-head but my knees are ok.
For now.

DavidPuddy · 26/06/2018 22:10

There was once an Agatha Christie Poirot story that hung upon the point of whether anyone had noticed the girl's knees.

ShinyMe · 26/06/2018 22:11

My knees look like a ten year old's - they're covered in scars from constant falling over as a child. Over steps, out of trees, over skipping ropes, off walls... you name it, I tripped over it and I always had bare knees so I was always covered in scabs as a kid.

I don't care though, I'll display my knees if it's hot. And I'm not sure that I've ever looked at anyone else's knees. I certainly haven't looked at them and been disgusted.

justbinthefeckinbyebyebox · 26/06/2018 22:12

It's a running joke in our family that everyone used to stare
at my knees, even dogs!!! Blush That's when they were acceptable ( not that
I ever liked them) Now they are just fat!
I also cringe at feet on show, I know it's my problem, so hate the Summer for 2 reasons!
I am a proud owner of a three-head too, but I suppose it depends how fat your fingers are! Wink

ShinyMe · 26/06/2018 22:15

I was just thinking of that @DavidPuddy! It's Cat Among the Pigeons, where a mid-20s actress pretends to be a schoolgirl so she can be fake kidnapped for a ransom, when the real princess was captured months before. Poirot obviously ages her from her knees and that's the clue that unravels the whole sordid business.

Joyousjobhunt · 26/06/2018 22:17

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny Demi Moore has had a "knee lift". Not sure why on earth I remember reading that though.

BrownTurkey · 26/06/2018 22:21

I once showed my knees (which I had no issues with how they looked) to my friend who is a physio and she said ‘what’s going on with your knees’ and looked horrifed - she must have seen thousands Sad

alltoomuchrightnow · 26/06/2018 22:23

yes it was Demi Moore..I think for her 40th birthday and for Charlies Angels as I recall? For some beach scene?

hidengosqueak · 26/06/2018 22:28

I have a 2 head is that bad or good ?

  • toddles off confused!
OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 26/06/2018 22:34

Of course, Demi Moore.

My knees are quite nobbly and one has a scar from surgery but I still wear shorts in this weather despite being over 50.

I'm more concerned about my threehead.
