The other day I got an email saying someone had recorded me via my webcam watching porn and doing 'nasty things' and was going to send a video of me watching said porn to all the contacts attached to my email unless I gave them 465 dollars via bitcoin. I was kind of confused as to what they were going to send my contacts as I don't watch porn, I do get occasional pop-ups when I'm pirating content but that's the extent of it. At most my family and friends might have been sent a recording of me drinking tea and rolling my eyes at 'Russian Singles in my area' ads.
Anyway, I looked into it and it's a relatively new scam going around. You know it's a scam because it's usually poorly written, doesn't refer to you by name or give any identifiable info and doesn't share any proof that they have what they claim to have. Apparently a 'legit' blackmailer will always send proof.
So if you do get an email like this some time soon, no need to respond to it. Just a heads up.
