Calling all police officers!

I’m currently on another thread where we are discussing cultural appropriation and the convo has lead to racism.

Calling someone a white bitch vs black bitch.

Some posters believe calling someone a black bitch is racist but calling someone a white bitch is offensive not racist.

I would like to know that in the eyes of the law are both those comments seen as the same crime?

Not even sure if this is appropriate on MN.

You want a lawyer not a police officer

Londonerlove · 25/06/2018 19:48

Calling all lawyers!!!!!

Yes calling someone a white bitch would still be classed as a racially aggravated offence. Not a police officer but deal with crime.

ConciseandNice · 25/06/2018 19:48

You don’t need a police officer. Saying either of those things is racist. If you are using a person’s skin colour as a perjorative it’s racist.

Londonerlove · 25/06/2018 19:50

How about reverse racism?

matchingpjs · 25/06/2018 19:55

I thought it was only considered racism if from a position of the majority/ power. So one cant be racist towards white people in the UK for example ( or have I got that wrong?)

Storm4star · 25/06/2018 19:57

When it comes to the law it’s different. “Racially aggravated” means any race, not just those who are oppressed.

matchingpjs · 25/06/2018 20:03

Storm4star so if i was black and called someone a white bitch in the UK is that against the law?

Londonerlove · 25/06/2018 20:04

As the heading was misleading I started a new thread.

The "position of power" definition of racism isn't particularly well recognized

Storm4star · 25/06/2018 20:07

@matchingpjs

Yes it’s against the law.

matchingpjs · 25/06/2018 20:16

Well I've learned something new today. Goodness knows why I thought it wasn't illegal

SardinesAreYum · 25/06/2018 20:21

What a weird thread.

FWIW the word "bitch" is not exactly brilliant (misogyny).

I don't think anyone should be going around using either of these. What a stupid argument.

Is this about white people complaining that there is lots of racism against them and it goes unpunished...?

Thread seems potentially goady TBH.

What do you hope to get out of this?

BifsWif · 25/06/2018 20:29

It’s in relation to another thread on here about cultural appropriation sardines

It will make sense if you read that.

Londonerlove · 25/06/2018 20:38

@sardines very weird thread and cringed as I wrote it.
