Class photos

I remember these from being a kid - even year group ones. Just about making out the pin head size of your face.

DS' nursery are doing a "leavers photo" for those starting school in September.

I could understand wanting a solitary photo of your child, but to buy one of a group of kids some you have never met, boggles my brain.

Is this a thing?

I have class photos from my last year at junior school, and my fourth year at secondary school, randomly, I don't know why my parents chose those ones. I really like having them, reminding me of the people in my class that I would never remember otherwise.

We have a class picture of DS1 and DS2, I think one is Reception and one is Year 3. I find it very helpful for getting them to point out children they are talking about, or want to invite round or whatever, especially as I am practically faceblind.

My nana used to have a whole-school pic of my Dad's school on the wall. It was useful when Mum wanted to prove to Dad they had attended the same school - he didn't believe her, but there they both were.

We had whole class ones (all 15 students) During primary school. My parents didn't get them. But did buy the whole school one in secondary. These were only done once every 4 years and would have had both me and my brother on. God knows why she got it. It's still in the same box 15 years later.

I’ve always thought this.

I didn’t bother buying my children’s class photos. It would only sit in the drawer gathering dust.

Also, I know that in a few years one of the mums will upload it to Facebook and tag me in it saying ‘look how young they look’ 😂

Last week I remembered a lad from school, primary school, and Googled him. Up popped a bloody primary school pic with me sat next to him!! I feel mortified my sullen face is up for the world to see!!
They should be banned I tell you!!

Well, slightly different at Nursery, but by Primary school, your dc will have spent 6 hrs a day x 5 days a week x 7 years with them - it is nice to have a class or year group photo.
Indeed, ds (who is 22) got his out only last week to show me someone he hangs out with now, he used to be junior school with, that I couldn't remember who they were.

Then at the weekend, we were looking at some of my dd2 (who is 16)'s prom photos, and she was showing me who some of the folk were, from her junior school year group photo.

I wouldn't get them year on year, but it is certainly nice to have a class photo in Reception or Yr 1, and then again in Yr 6.

It’s a group of children you have never met, but your D.C. spends every day with them, these children are his or her peers and friends.

You don’t buy the picture for you, you buy it for your D.C.

It’s not a mandatory purchase of course but I’m a bit puzzled why this isn’t obvious to you.

But I'm friends with some of the children I went to Nursery with.

My children, nearing the end of Prep school, are still in the same class as some of their Nursery buddies.

Why does your mind boggle?

Reception and school as maybe but some of these kids in his nursery photo wouldn't even have been in class with him (he attends 3 days a week).

Just seems odd to me.

tripYouOut It's not a feeder nursery. There are only 4 children out of 25 going into his school.

I just don't understand them - I'm sure my mum has some of mine somewhere but I've never got them out and looked at them that I recall. perhaps because I don't live there anymore and so don't see/speak to those people

I occasionally look at all my old school ones, especially if I’ve got an old friend round or trying to remember something. It’s nice. I’m glad my mum bought them. She enjoys looking at them too

Agree nursery makes little sense but I get the class photo every year in primary so far.

They mix the classes up each year and have lots of starters and leavers so it's a nice reminder of the children and the staff.

If it's terrible pic of dd1 or I want to forget the teacher I might change my mind but 3 years so far!

I think they’re more for the kids really as they get older. The individual ones are for the parents. I came across my sister’s old class photo when I was having a clear out and it was so nice for her to look back on as an adult and remember the kids she went to school with.
