Hi im 43 and diabetic with 42 pounds to lose. Im perimenopausal and considering starting HRT as the hot flushes, foggy brain and thought of becoming hairy and dried up are too much.
Is it worth waiting till i have lost weight to start HRT

No absolutely not. 43 is fairly young to start the menopause so the current government advice (NICE guidelines) is for women experiencing peri-menopausal symptoms under the age of 45 to start HRT. You would miss out on the protective effect of oestrogen on your heart and bones if you waited to lose weight before starting. Plus I don't think HRT will cause weight gain-well it certainly didn't with me!

I started on HRT aged 42 I was overweight at the time and I had managed to lose a couple of stones before I starts it. I thought I would gain weight once I started HRT but I actually lost another stone and I’ve kept it off.

If you feel you need to start taking it I would it made a huge difference to me, I hadn’t realised how awful I felt until I started taking it.

I'm post menopausal (early start to it at 42) and have to say I am not foggy-brained, hairy or dried up! Don't believe all that you read!
(Couldn't use HRT because of familial breast cancer risk)
