Canned wine

AIBU to be inexplicably pleased that wine in cans will be available as of today? Why didn't someone come up with this before now? Perfect solution for festivals, picnics, and even for people who are trying to cut-down. I just have to find a Waitrose near me which stocks this!

What?!?!? I'm very excited to hear this news. Good start to the day after a 5 am wake up.

MariaMadita · 25/06/2018 06:28

That doesn't feel quite right to me...

But seeing as there's also wine in cartons and bags. Why not? ;)

EnFlique · 25/06/2018 06:30

Wine in cans has been available for quite a while round these parts. It’s great!
Most Wanted is the brand I think.

TheMythicalChicken · 25/06/2018 06:31

Oh, what a great idea! I doubt we'll get it in my country, but I will stock up when I next come to the UK.

As a PP said, it will be so much easier to cut down with smaller pack sizes.

Amanduh · 25/06/2018 06:34

Tesco have done one for a while. My fave for picnics is the m&s one that comes in a glass with a foil lid! That way I only drink the one.. usually 😂

lidoshuffle · 25/06/2018 06:35

They are really good if you just want a small amount for a recipe and don't want to open bottle.

It's not a new thing though, is it? I'm sure I've had tinnies years ago.

MariaMadita · 25/06/2018 06:41

As for all the cut down comments....

Aren't there half / small bottles in the UK? (I've never bothered to check.)

They're about 0,35 l and quite useful.

Astrid2 · 25/06/2018 06:43

Surely the wee bottles are much more practical since you can put the screw top back on?

LynetteScavo · 25/06/2018 06:51

I'm not sure about canned wine.

I sometimes have a mini bottle.

I haven't quite recovered from being served wine from a tap in a pub a few years ago.

Feb2018mumma · 25/06/2018 06:56

I used to always have canned prosecco from home bargains! Defo good on camping holidays!

Mominatrix · 25/06/2018 07:44

I think that they did exist in the past, but the ones I read about are a better quality of wine than was previously available (not saying that a can of wine will will any awards, but the ones out now are better). Cans are lightweight than mini bottles, so easier to transport and keep cool, and good for recycling, I would imagine.

Now if they could only come up with a can of champagne.

I am in the US, so they have been popular here for a year or so. I hate them, really overpriced and poor quality. There was wine in cans in the UK years ago that was shit too, my mum used it for cooking.

LynetteScavo · 25/06/2018 18:49

I have a very prim and proper friend who thinks nothing of cracking a can of G&T when we're out with the DC.

My only issue with this is she never offers me one.
