To ask for your experiences of Essix Retainers

I am having dental surgery soon and will have to wear an essix retainer for 4-6 months. I am slightly panicking about how this will look / feel, and whether I will be able to eat with it in.

Does anybody have any experiences of these - either positive or negative?

I wear mine at night. After I hadn’t braces off I initially had to wear them 24/7 for a few months. You can’t eat with them & must brush your teeth before putting them back in. As they are clear they look fine and you’d be hard pushed to find someone noticing them. You may talk with a slight lisp when you first wear them but that goes.

Thanks so much for your post! I am having implants so will have to wear for 4-6 months- looks like I won’t be accepting any dinner invitations!

Good luck with him it all! I had braces and then implants. It was a long process but so worth it. I refused to eat without my teeth in so didn’t go out for dinner with my friends. They didn’t mind seeing me without my missing teeth but it was a huge deal for me. You won’t regret it when it’s all finished.
