Royal Mail Delivery Times

I have been waiting for a very important letter (divorce papers) that I was assured had been posted first class on 15/6.

The letter turned up today - a full week later. Postage was all correct & it was postmarked the 15th. Is this incredibly slow ? TBH I’m out of touch with snail mail times these days as most things can be done electronically- now I know why

Yes, it's slow for 1st class. (My DM had a theory that brown envelopes always went second class whatever the stamp on them - that theory seemed to tally with experience!)

Seems like your letter was misplaced along the way as it should really arrive the next day. I haven’t had a problem with first class post.

Post is all over the place. 2nd class arriving the next day but 1st taking ages.

The estimated delivery time for first class is the next working day and for second class, 2-3 working days. However these aren’t guaranteed and occasionally can take longer (as you’ve found out).

If you need something urgently then splashing out for special delivery (next day guaranteed) is the way to go.

I posted some party invitations yesterday afternoon, 2nd class & they arrived this morning!
