To absolutely love being a trustee?

Just that really. And I have run my own organization for years, and know how hard it is to find people who want to be trustees. I am a trustee to another organization, and I love it! Not to mention at board meetings we get free cake and cookies. Who wouldn't love that? 😂🍪☕️🍩

I have been a trustee for six months, and elected officer two weeks ago. I really have enjoyed every single minute of it. I like learning new things, I like being able to get the chance to do new things, and as I mentioned, free cake.

That's great! Being a trustee can be thankless so it's nice to hear positive experiences!

Me too! I'm stepping down from my role next month after a few years because I've got dc2 on the way shortly and can't make evening meetings easily, but I'm trying not to sulk too much!

What does being a trustee involve and how do you get involved in a a specific organisation in that way?

topcat2014 · 22/06/2018 06:46

Of what type of organisation?

I am a charity trustee, and it's 'ok' - not sure I feel the love though..

Feel similar about being school governor.

Top cat, it's a charity.

Not that woman, are used to be the youngest one in the room at Townhall meetings talking about disability, and I really liked it. Someone on the disability board, asked me if I wanted to be a trustee. I said yes, and I am.

I was appointed to treasurer a few weeks ago, so I'm about to learn how to use QuickBooks. Everyone is guiding me along and what I need to do, but I really really enjoy it. I will be signing the checks, doing the account reports, etc. it's a big responsibility, I know. But I can do it.

Sometimes I take biscuits to our meetings, I suppose that counts.

All the coffee mugs are a bit chipped though :(

Top cat, that's a start! At our AGM, we had really good food, these chocolate biscuits. And we had music as well. It was a really fun day, and one of the support workers who knew I first moved to the UK showed up and was crying. When she found out I was being appointed officer.

People who know me, and know how motivated I am, and know how hard I try, believe in me. But A lot of people don't expect anything from me. That's probably why I really like being an officer so much. As I mentioned, and the youngest on our board, and I know I have a big responsibility. People believed in me enough to give me the responsibility.
