To wonder how I can play the sims?

I have a new laptop that doesn't have a CD drive. I have the sims 3 which has a CD for installation. I remember when I installed it on my old pc that I had to log in to origin so I have an account with them. I don't have an Internet connection at home, so my question is, can I use origin somewhere with an Internet connection to access the game, but then save it on my desktop or somewhere for playing when I'm home without the internet? Thanks!!!

Can you transfer the data from the CD to a flash drive? You might have to ask a friend to do it on their pc.

GenericHamster · 21/06/2018 13:14

If you have the serial code etc you should be able to log online with Origin when you have wifi and maybe be able to get a download that way. But the machine you plan to use it on will need to be online too so you can actually get the download. Unless it would fit on a massive memory stick.

Thanks :) otherwise, without doing that can I only play online?

i think you can log in then download game keep the installation code handy though, not sure with sims 3 but certainly with sims 4. yes you can ply offline.

Sleepyandtired21 · 21/06/2018 13:19

You can have origin in offline mode but you do need to log in to access the game, it’s all done through Origin if you don’t have the disc.

HannaPintura · 21/06/2018 13:21

Thanks mamabear I will give it a try tonight :)

I had exactly this recently. Hubby got me a plug in disk drive, it was only £18 in currys. Attached it via usb and bobs your uncle x

The thing is the sims 3 is quite a large download so not everywhere that has free wifi will allow you to download it. You’d have to go to a friend’s house rather than a library sort of thing.

I think EA/origin has a live chat service. You’d be better off asking them as I’m not sure if a physical disk version automatically means that you have the digital Origin version, it’s different.

LookAtThatCritter · 21/06/2018 18:00

I had the same issue although I did have an internet connection - downloaded origin and used the serial codes to download it!

My favourite game was the sims making magic, I wish they’d do a newer version so I could play it again!!!

CatLadyToddlerMother · 21/06/2018 18:04

If you have the code from the disk, log onto origin and there's a place to put into digital format so you can play it there. You can play without internet connection but won't be able to download anything without one.

Alternatively Sims 4 is all online now, no disks at all.

(I play Sims 1, 2, 3 and 4)

I recently got The Sims 2 and all expansion packs (for free) from EA and having fun and feeling nostalgic when playing it :D
Hope you get your copy sorted! (I've never played 3 and I bought 4 and now wish I hadn't)!

Sleepyandtired21 · 21/06/2018 18:23

How did you get sims 2?? I’m desperate for it!

MissionItsPossible · 21/06/2018 18:41

@Sleepyandtired21 If you still have the original game and the booklet that comes with it it has a serial number on there. You can contact EA support online and ask/beg** to please have a copy of Ultimate Sims Collection and they will send it to you via Origin.
**The offer ended ages ago and I read comments online from people saying they were unsuccessful. I asked and then realised I didn't have my book with the serial number on it but they told me to take a picture of the disks and the box with that day's date so I did and they sent it to me.

Just treat yourself to Sims4 it’s on offer at Steam right now as well as expansion packs all downloads so no problems

ZispinAndTurmericLatte · 21/06/2018 19:37

I want to play Sims now... but my family has two sets of twins and grumpy grandparents and it's too much like hard work!

SadTrombone · 21/06/2018 19:38

Could you "hotspot" your phone and then connect your laptop to that to use the internet at home? (It will use up your data though so keep an eye on that!)
