To rock a rainbow strap bag?

KaterynParr · 20/06/2018 21:26

Spent the day with my Dad. And my new bag.

  1. what an interesting choice
  2. he didn’t know I was an ‘activist’
  3. aren’t I worried about being propositioned by a lady

AIBU to tell him that if he’s so interested in ladies’ handbags he should buy one of his own???

To rock a rainbow strap bag?

I am bisexual, or pan, I suppose, and wouldn't chat someone up on the strength of a bag strap. It's a lovely bag...

Not the right time to tell him DD has come out as gay??? Hmm

Where's it from? I love it! (Straight and would wear it without a thought! )

dudsville · 20/06/2018 21:36

I have a rainbow umbrella. I was caught out during a downpour. I was in a great mood and didn't fancy the dour black umbrellas. I don't think my umbrella should define or signal my sexuality. Your bag is fun!

ShinyMe · 20/06/2018 21:49

I agree with others - that's a fantastic bag! I want one.

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 20/06/2018 21:52

Another one here wanting to know where your bag is from

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 20/06/2018 21:52

It's a generational thing. It's a very nice bag, I'd have it with all black though. I can't be too bright! 😉

winterisstillcoming · 20/06/2018 21:54

I'm loving the rainbow trend at the moment. Another one who now wants that bag.

AhWeCanDanceIfWeWantTo · 20/06/2018 21:56

Ooh i like it! Good bag OP!

Btw- does rainbow always mean LGBT? Surely not? Sometimes it’s just rainbow stripes, right?

Glumglowworm · 20/06/2018 21:58

Better not tell him about the Rainbows section of Girl Guiding! Won’t somebody think of the children?!?

If the worst came to worst (god forbid!) and a (gasp) woman chatted you up because of your bag, I’m sure you could find the courage to politely decline, just as you would if a man chatted you up but you weren’t interested in him.

PremierNaps · 20/06/2018 22:00

Rainbow colours don't always mean LGBT 🙄 if it was in black with the rainbow strap I would love it.

Wouldn't hit on you just because of a strap FYI.

lilyblue5 · 20/06/2018 22:00

No idea, but I want that bag! Where is it from?

ShinyMe · 20/06/2018 22:04

I found this strap on Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/Rainbow-Shoulder-Buckles-Crossbody-Replacement/dp/B07B7MCB8V?tag=mumsnetforum-21

I'm getting one - I can sew, so I'm going to make a bag to put it on.

KaterynParr · 20/06/2018 22:04

Marc Jacobs!

I did just get it because I wanted a happy-happy bag (or strap for an existing bag actually - I have an older version). But I can’t now say that - not least given DD news & not wanting to sound like I’d be against being all gay-pridey - so I kind of have to wear his views Confused.

bobstersmum · 20/06/2018 22:06

I love the bag and I'm straight. But I'm gutted it's from Marc Jacobs because I can't afford it! I hoped you'd say Topshop!

KaterynParr · 20/06/2018 22:08

It was my milestone anniversary gift from DH two years ago. I love the rainbow straps for letting me make it a fun whole new look!!!

Let's face it, lots of dads are rubbish at conversation with grown up daughters and just don't know what to say that's better than silence. My dad spent years sounding rude about my clothing or whatever because he didn't know what else to say and thought it was sort of amusing. He's since moved on to talking almost entirely about his health complaints, so I'd almost welcome him actually noticing something about me for once.

Postymalone · 20/06/2018 22:09

I don’t think anyone over the age of 18 can ‘rock’ anything.
The bag is vile.

MarklahMarklah · 20/06/2018 22:12

It's lovely!

I like rainbows, unicorns & glitter and I'm well over 18

BuntyCollocks · 20/06/2018 22:12

posty what a day of sunshine you are!

ShinyMe · 20/06/2018 22:17

I totally disagree @posty! What's being over 18 got to do with anything? I think we should wear and have things that make us happy. If that's very grown up and mature sensible navy blue then that's great. But if that's sparkly rainbow unicorns then that's great too. I don't care at all if people think I look too old for things I have - if something makes me happy then that's my priority. I have some converse style trainers from Asda that are greeny blue reversible sequins and they look awesome - they make me really cheerful and every single time I've worn them out, a middle aged woman has stopped me to tell me how fabulous my shoes are.

AhWeCanDanceIfWeWantTo · 20/06/2018 22:19

Vile? Confused

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 20/06/2018 22:22

Oh lord Hmm Posty is one of those boring people who thinks once you reach a certain age you can’t wear fun things isn’t she.

I absolutely love that bag! It’s probably to small for me unfortunately but I shall just lust! (Whilst using my childish shimmery pink rucksack for work Wink)

ShinyMe · 20/06/2018 22:26

I worked with one of those. We had a big office argument about knickers and pyjamas once. She was of the opinion that once you were 25, knickers should be black or white, and pyjamas must not have glitter, sequins or cartoon animals. I... disagreed.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 20/06/2018 22:28

I currently very very very want this one from KG
